I noticed that while watching a stream the other day, feels like it eats up most of the turn.

It’s still happening.
Blizzard cares only about your money, not the fixes.
Imagine if they nerfed the animation so people in wild could punish the druid by playing Nozdormu.
It would be a fun reason!
(the actual reason is probably that the fast animation caused some bugs, maybe on mobile, and so they reverted it)

The reverse is more likely to happen: Druid plays Spreading Plague and immediately dumps Nozdormu (thanks to something like Dreampetal Florist) + ends turn, then the opponent’s turn skips due to the animation.
