I have seen reports of this going back years. I have a huawei p smart 2019 and - I’m guessing - when a new patch comes out the game cant update itself, instead getting stuck on “checking updates” for about half a minute before giving the “not enough free space” error. I have about 30 gigabytes of free space.
I tried reinstalling and giving the game write access as I read in some older forum post, but it doesn’t help. The only temporary fix is to reinstall the game from the store every time the error occures.
Does anyone have a better fix for this? Maybe one that doesn’t involve reinstalling?

Okay, so I just solved it. The game gives the wrong error. The real problem is that the wifi is on but not connected. Turning the wifi off solved it, the game correctly started the update from cellular.
