Which is why I’m glad Hearthstone doesn’t use it, after my experience with the MTG Arena unranked queue, which attempts to match the rarity distribution of decks.
Too bad rarity isn’t a good predictor of deck strength, so the matches aren’t actually good, but rarity is a good predictor of a style of deck. Decks with more rarer cards in them tend to be control decks, decks with fewer rarer cards tend to be aggro decks. So the result is a lot of control vs control, aggro vs aggro. When you’re on an extreme end, such as a pure control deck, it makes the game stale and predictable to know that you’re just going to face other control decks.
Go to their ranked system, and the rarity matchmaking isn’t used, and there’s much more variety (at least until you get to the ranks where the tryhard meta dominates).
As I said, it’s good that Hearthstone doesn’t do this.

Wow, u serious? There is a ton of matchmaking in HS based on the deck you play. I have no idea how you think that isn’t happening, but it’s obvious af to even the most open minded player and people have been complaining about it for years. I see you posted like over 3000 times, you should be a veteran and know better.
Here come the Blizzard defense force. EVERYONE who actually plays the game and doesn’t sit here 24/7 defending Blizzard knows the game is rigged. Every single day I see this bs. Today I was playing control warrior and ONLY faced other control warriors. Switch to priest and ONLY face warlock. But if I don’t play priest I never see lock ever. It’s rigged 100%. The best part is almost every time you switch to another deck, you will get an exact mirror. How is that not rigged??
that post was created 4 years ago. you may believe that this is still accurate if you want to. indulge me if i don’t. i have played to many games that taught me otherwise.
So you claim Blizzard is lying about this because evil corporate overlords, but somehow trust Wizards of the Coast when they say that rarity matchmaking is used for unranked but not for ranked?
Why would Blizzard lie about it when their strongest competitor uses it openly?
One of the things on the rigged side is this, people don’t even have a clear understanding of what they’re talking about.
You saying the game was rigged because It gave you mirrors? Lol, what? Mirrors are incapable of being rigged, you’re using the same cards, god in Heaven.
Then right next you compared Warrior vs Warrior with Priest vs Lock, lmao.
It’s not just Blizzard. It’s a giant conspiracy. My cat is in on it. When the food bowl is empty, I never win, but as soon as the cat is fed, I start to win again. Refute that evidence shills!!!
When something is rigged , it has been fraudulently manipulated by someone to get their desired outcome (e.g., the game was rigged in favor of the home team).
The 'rig ’ that means "to manipulate or control usually by deceptive or dishonest means " first appeared in an 18th century slang dictionary with the definition "game, diversion, ridicule.
I think people need to stop using the word Rigged.
This game isn’t “rigged”.
It is however controlled by Blizzard, people don’t like being controlled.
Who controls this formula? Blizzard does.
Blizzard decides, through said formula, who you will play against.
There is nothing wrong with this practice. They HAVE to have Match Making Rules (Ratings) or else, how else would they decide who you play?
I think the difference is, people think the MMR is nefarious and dishonest, therefore they think the game is “rigged”.
I personally think the MMR formula does consider more than is listed. I don’t believe class and card content is excluded. Do I think thats bad? No.
Anything actually quantitative that stands up to rigorous scrutiny. Nothing presented in the seven years of complaints has ever held up, so, I’m comfortable thinking that no evidence of rigging exists.
Fee free to present some, and be sure to make it testable, not just “I totally saw someone play priest against my warlock!”
a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.
So, when someone makes a statement, such as Blizzard did. You take it as 100% fact and truth? Like I said, I tend to believe a portion of the MMR “statement” as presented by them, I just don’t think they are sharing everything. And, pay attention so you don’t make another terribly inaccurate response, I do not think we are entitled to EVERY bit of information that is baked into the game.
It’s good to know there are people out there though that believe everything that’s told to them.
If I told you I drove a Ferarri and owned a chain of yarn distribution centers, would you believe me?
Why not? Because I’m not a BIG BAD corporation like Blizzard?
Hmmm…
Interesting.
Because corporations have NEVER LIED TO MAKE MONEY BEFORE.
And, once more, we are not entitled to every drop of information.
All we are entitled to is getting the items we pay for.
