Questing to rank 176 legend!

The Duke’s legend climb thread?! Already?! That’s right my lovelies! Gather 'round.

Absolutely insane run. Went from D5-L176 in not too long of a session. Won the mirror for my win and in. For everyone who hates Paladin, I had nearly a 100% win rate vs the agro and murloc versions.

This is now the highest rank I have been able to get to. I very much doubt I will keep it since I just don’t have the time or energy to keep grinding. I am very happy with this performance and version of the deck.

The meta is in an interesting spot and I understand why many people hate it. But, I did see some hefty diversity in my climb. I saw every class represented on my climb. There were definitely ones i saw more, but every class and some with multiple viable decks.

The Meta:

Death Knight - I saw mostly BBBDK and they were all free wins. The deck doesn’t have the resources to continuously deal with the portal, let alone two of them. It is also super slow and lets you set up however you want. I’m pretty sure I had a 100% win rate against them. Saw agro DK once and it was a free win. Massively in Quest Warlocks favor.

Demon Hunter - I saw waaay more agro DH than Starship. I am teched for this match up and basically just steamroll them with heal and taunts. I just have way too many tools that lead into portal. Starship is way more annoying since they gain so much armor and can sit behind taunts. The few times I played against they they made a couple crucial mistakes. One played Felbat instead of launching his Starship that had double Crystal in it. He died to triple Corpsicle. A similar thing happened with another where Horizon’s Edge on board and double Corpsicle in hand pushed past the taunts/armor. This version crushed agro and I think would normally have trouble with the Starship version.

Druid - I saw a Egg agro Druid with new cards! It died horrible. I also saw some Aviana druid and they got rolled by double portals. There is nothing they can do against double portal. Both are in favor of Quest Warlock.

Hunter - I saw exclusively agro beast hunter. This literally comes down to whether I see Hellfire or not. Every game I saw it I won and almost every game I didn’t see it was a loss. I think it is slightly in favor of quest Warlock. If you see Hellfire and get Quest online by turn 5-6 it is nearly impossible for them to overcome.

Mage - Elemental/burn mage was an easy win. I have Hellfire to deal with a wide board. Coupled with Drain Lifes and Portal it becomes nearly impossible for them to overcome. Quest mage did fairly better but they are also just a bit too slow and often let me set up double portal. Double portal is just too much value for them. It is also hilarious watching Yoggbos cast Blackhole and leave all my demons up. Definitely in favor of Warlock.

Paladin - I saw a pretty even split of agro and murloc Paladin. Both of them are free wins. The only time I dropped games to agro was when I did not see Hellfire. Once portal is online it becomes too hard for them to get passed while they get chipped away.

Priest - Protoss Priest actually gave me some of my most challenges. When they curve out into Resuscitate it is very difficult to get the board back before they start dropping Motherships. I try to play very aggressively and put them in kill range by the time Motherships can drop. This is pretty even.

Rogue - Saw once cycle rogue. They have no answer to healing and run out of gas. Fyrakk rogue is very annoying and honestly just came down to how good their Fyrakk was. If it was good RNG they won and if it was bad they lost. The goal is to be aggressive and chip them down into Corpsicle range.

Shaman - Saw mostly Nebula Shaman. They are slow and they always let me set up double portal. They have an insane amount of value, but double portal always sealed the deal.

Warlock - It was always the mirror. I always went for double portal as best I can and I had maybe an 80% win rate in the mirror because of it.

Warrior - This is by far the worst match up. Quest Warrior just has too much removal while building up to combo turns. Double portal would sometimes let me eek out a win, but one portal was never enough.

Conclusion - While many people hate the current meta(I have many criticisms), there is serious diversity at the high end. I think the best decks right now are Quest Warlock and Fyrakk rogue. The amount of value and ability to survive while having some crazy burst turns put them above others. I am not sure what I would nerf right now. i think I would focus on buffing underperforming cards first. As it stand, I know the mini set just came out, the mini set added nothing to the meta.

Yeah, quest lock is pretty broken at the moment.

The rush guy really, really shouldn’t have lifesteal.

It is basically the only reason the deck can come back against agro. Could make him less attack maybe.

I’d rather lock have to run their actual life gain cards like health drink than passively regain their health because their quest is done.

The entire meta is kind of trash though, so I don’t see blizzard fixing any of their unfun designs.

The Drain Souls were 100% helping against agro. Even pulling an extra or two from Tidepools sometimes saved the game.

So… exactly the same as the VS conclusion from the last report.

No idea. I can count on 1 hand how many times I have visited any of those sites.

I have been climbing faster than usual this month as well. I usually get to Diamond 5 in like 4th or 5th day of the month, and to legend in like the 7th-8th day of the month.

Casually climbed to diamond 10 in wild in like 2 play sessions, and in standard in 3.

For Wild, I used Hydration Druid & Token Hunter.

For Standard I tried Hydration Druid (I need to refine it more, before I post a list, the deck has a lot of potential) & Face Rogue.

Hydration Druid in standard has a lot of potential to be a high tier 2 deck, mostly because Mistah Vistah just replays your stations, and you passively generate a ridiculous amount of armor and threatening boards. In wild the deck is fine, but it gets eaten alive by Control Warrior & Hostage Mage.

When I hit legend just completely depends on my schedule and when I have time to do a decently long session. I’ve been tinkering with Quest Lock since maybe a month ago. I value being able to freeze way more than the 0 cost wisps. Freezing came in clutch countless times.

Yes, Glacial Shard is really underplayed this meta. Especially in aggro decks, because you can just win the game with a good freeze.

I had a druid play turn 4 Sneed’s. Between the shards and temporary frost spells it didn’t attack a single time until the druid died on turn 9 lol.

For me the deck seems to come down to finding solarium early and then being able to vomit all 3 cards from solarium to be able to complete the quest turn 4/5.

Then its just vomit out demons and hope for the best. I personally didn’t find the whole concept very exciting.

Sweetened Snowflurries ended up completing quests more often than not. It brings an insane amount of value to the table.

Yeah rolling dk resfresh mana on that thing can get you a portal OR TWO on turn 5.

I have a variant of the deck that is either double portal on turn 5 or handlocked until maybe only one portal on turn 7 which can still be a good start but against aggro its no question concede

Editt: Ive done a turn 5 temporary kerrigan too lol

Just a great deck grats on such a low early legend. Do you play now to continue to earn lower rank or let it sit for a bit

I will only play a couple games a day for awhile. I just don’t have the time to keep grinding ranks. I know I could very easily stay top 100 with this deck. Have too much real life stuff going on and also want to play other games.

Lock quest they need to slow down, it gets out WAAAYYY too fast

Lol I ran into you in your run last night I believe, though I couldn’t see your rank, mobile bugs out sometimes that way.

Contributed to your losses however. I was playing an off meta protoss rogue, but it probably just looked like fyrakk rogue to you. Had one good fyrakk RNG followed by two whiffs.

The heal spells definitely seemed to give you more runway, but I was running Zephyrs for the extra reach.

Anyways Grats on having fun in this meta and making progress.
