Quest mage killed for no reason

Wow. Not a mage main but they always said for years they cant have anything. Not even a literal tier 3 deck is safe. Lol. Lol. Lol.

I said once a +1 quest requirement would kill it. And then i said maybe that wouldn’t affect it too much. But i was right the first time

Playing it as 8 discovers is absurd. This just genuinely became the clunkiest deck in standard. Juggling a hand full of junk discovers was a whole aspect of the skill needed to play it. Now i’m completing it and if im LUCKY equipping/getting value from the weapon as early as turn 8 lol.

Tell me how its fair for a “competitive” game to purposely gut old cards to make way for the hot new cards. Might as well nerf jade guardians again or the elusive prescient drake again if we’re going so old school. How about slapping another +1 mana cost on arkonite defense crystal.

Everyone knows pirate warrior will get a nerf but to ignore it and gut out old cards is insane lol

i’m still wondering how adding 1 more card to discover kills it, i’ve yet to see a satisfactory answer.

They have a reason. It will be too OP in the future. What is dumb is that they have an indie-company level of patching and they can’t do it more incrementally

I explained it in the other thread. Usually what separated lethal from a terrible loss was at most 2 more rounds. 1 more round guaranteed is a gigantic nerf that will probably translate to at least -10% win rate.

Well thank goodness we have leyline mage, right?
Oh wait, that deck is bad. Nvm.
I guess burn mage still has a positive win rate?
Until they smack it too.
Kidding not kidding, but maybe they will double down on burn mage type spells and play styles for the next expansion.
Mage gets remade every single expansion and there is almost no continuity.
That was and is my chief complaint.
There are classes in Wild that have years of complimentary cards, while mage has a hodgepodge of unrelated styles.

They could just make the game slower and kill all fast decks and make a mage that goes very late game and does spell stuff like Sif Mage.

The recurring meme that “aggro must exist” is stupid and never made sense similarly to saying “combo” when ALL decks combo.

I’m convinced Team 5 is mostly artists who have absolutely no clue on technical matters and they can’t pre-balance anything.

You know, idc either way if they would simply give mage spell-first decks, and, if they would let it have even two expansions that sync with one another.
Sif mage was pretty fun..

sif mage was pretty awful to play cause there were so many armor stacking decks

The reason has been clear since the reno nerf where they explained their balance philosophy.. Old expansion make way for new expansion. Make way for new expansion by nerfing to the ground anything playable from old expansion.

People were playing quests and not whatever the new stuff is so no more quests.

The quest was on average completed on turn 5 with mabye a few mana left over to save yourself with whatever remaining discover card you could cheat stuff out from. Now you’re completing on turn 5 with mabye 1 or 0 mana to recover with.

With aggro decks being what they are delaying the potential flip turn to 6.. when aggro decks are killing on turn 4 or 5…has destroyed the thin margin that quest mage was living on.

Its like the HIGHROLL now is to have the weapon equippable on turn 7. Highroll used to be turn 5. That 1(+) mana used to discover one more card is so brutal.

I exaggerate a little bit but the deck really could not afford a one turn delay like at all.

Yeah one turn later in standard is gg. The card is now dead. Maybe in the future you can easily get multiple discovers for low mana but right now the card is dead. And why? Pirate warrior untouched. My mind is blown. It’s like the devs dont even play the same game we do. Im sad about it. It was my favorite deck to play in wild and standard this year. I crafted over 2k dust worth of cards for my wild deck.

I hate this for the players who enjoyed it.
It was the highest skill curve deck in mage, and not any type of threat at all.
We need reasons for why in the new set.
I don’t hold much hope tbh. I predict they will remake the class yet again, with zero continuity or synergy between expansions, while hunter gets yet another round of beasts, charge, and rush, along with direct damage spells that make mage look stupid and slow.

I still dont know why people are crying about. 8 discoveries was how the quest launched originally. They simply undid a buff.

And if you didnt have a viper you lose almost every time.

removing the buff now, when the game is so much faster, kills the deck.
I think most players of the deck know that.

Nobody is crying. It’s just how the curve of the deck works. About half of the time you died only because you needed 1 or max 2 more rounds to get the weapon so having a guaranteed extra round is devastating to the win rate (possibly at least -10% win rate).

edit: just checked stats, it’s probably at least -5% win rate which is just gigantic when the top 10 is basically playing for differences in the vicinity of ~3%.
