Heh. I don’t think you’re gonna sell anybody on the “should” but I think you could develop that into an alternative design. Basically, skip the “Plague lords suck as bosses” part, and lean into the “This would be better if there were unlockable bosses, or literally anything other than beat the last boss, that’s worth doing” part.

Yeah, being serious, we should discuss the design of it and point the flaws.
The boss itself is cool, but the way it is part as the last boss is frustating, you feel punished by not defeating him instead of rewarded when you indeed defeat him.
