Give me ONE example, I double dog, no, I triple dog dare you!
Care to give an example of an unbeatable quilboar setup ?
There’s a lot of moments where pirates can beat quilboars early on if they’ve scaled up properly
Dropping a 600/600 cleave at the right time can catch a lot of comps off guard
But since pirates have one of the worst long-time scaling they end up losing to pretty much any long term comp, that’s something you know beforehand
Well, the game I just played as pirate. They didn’t even have but just the tier 6 rally boar, and their stats were modest, 200/200 and one or two 300/300, but it was like turn 10 ish, I forget really, but I CAN say that every single one of my pirates was golden, I had the golden gold one, pretty much every stat giver pirate below tier 5, and it didn’t matter. I had the death rattle mother who gives a tier 4 golden, and I was able to just use one a turn to turn pirates golden, and use the rest for adding random 1 cost spells to utilize the pirates who give stats for extra cards. I was rolling in cash like 15/15 every turn, but it did nothing, it was the saddest, most glorious pirate game I ever had, and I refuse to play pirates for any reason.
I used the “Each time a friendly minion gains attack, give it +2 health permanently” to make a HUGELY out-scaling board. I used Gunpowder couriers and tavern spell buffers combined with Bootleggers to farm coins and multiple Hooktails to gain +1 per tavern spell. Then I just tavern refresh/spell spammed to victory. Never even had to go past T4. True I had one pure dragon in there, but whos counting XD
so only very bad scaling tools
a card that almost does nothing to your scaling
If you want a late game pirate comp you really need Cannon Corsair or Dastardly Drust
You need to alternate tempo turns and tavern ups until you reach your tavern 5-6 key minions. You most likely have to take a guaranteed loss at that point, and then you’ll start out-tempoing your opponents if you have the correct setup, until later when they outscale you
Plankwalker is the only sub-5 with a potential of late-game carry
Gunpowder Courier can be a good tempo option if you find it with enough pirates you’d want to keep on your board and enough gold to spend afterwards
Timewarped Tony is, imo, a terrible card to pick.
At turn 9, you really want to focus on getting your key pieces, so you either want something with great tempo to tavern up, or something with great eco so you can eiter tavern up, or get tempo, or even get your key minions right away
Tony grants neither of both. It’s not a good stated minion, it does nothing the turn you get it, the next turn you can golden a minion that will most likely have low impact on that turn
When playing Pirates you don’t want your entire Major timewarp to start granting substantial benefits only after 3 turns
Like picking Timewarped Plunderer to sell it after only 1 turn feels like a better move
Ah you cheeky fellow!
Pirate Comps for the most part are for good mid game tempo and generate a big economy so you can pivot in one turn. That’s pretty much what Pirates do this season and they do it very well.
I still wish they would have kept bounties in and just varied their play from that instead of what they have now.
Pirates are trash UNLESS you are good at APM. There is no other pirate build that comes close to even the weakest of the other tribes. And even with APM it’s so much easier to just go elementals, demons or undead.
I dont see anyone in this thread mentioning brann. Brann is absolutely required to play apm pirates because you cannot go infinite without it. If you arent infinite, the scaling from plankwalker+visionary shipman just isnt competitive.
So without brann really you are just using pirates for economy to pivot to a more powerful comp as Dallaen said.
Eudora is worth mentioning. Perhaps not the most powerful comp but in a beast lobby(for macaw) its viable. Its not as powerful as shopbuff QB, but its comparable with rally QB. Generally I wouldnt want to commit to eudora, but if you can get an early golden macaw and eudora its a decent way to roach into low top4.
Pirates can literally go infinite to the point you are only limited by your APM. Go look up some videos on how to play them.
I was going to reply after my “cheeky fellow” comment, but then I couldn’t because I had to wait for someone to reply.. I was GONNA say that immediately after I trash talked them, I super focused on the logic and reason of pirate builds, and I won first place!! I think I had some 300/300 cards, so yeah,
but to all the new stuff, I can only really play on my iPhone, but every week or so I can play a bunch of games on my Mac, for the apm, but maybe that’s why I didn’t do well with pirates before, I didn’t see anything about this game really being about speed, so they don’t really advertise metas here, they seem to be hard earned or won knowledge.
Sometimes its less about speed and more about having only 1/3rd of a turn because the FSKING BUFF ANIMATIONS TAKE A YEAR TO FINISH!!!
Buff animations should be abolished and not used as a method to slow down metas.
Ironically now it’s pirates that are pretty OP end game comps. Who would have guessed this could have happened after handing them broken minions.
