I had summoned Patches the Pirate from Kil’jaeden’s portal by playing a pirate, but it did not have the buff from 5+ turns of the portal being active.
The portal is 30 minions deep, so when you draw anything a new card is added to the bottom to fill it back up to 30. If patches was put into the 30 card deep portal it will not have the buff initially.
How is that an explanation ?
Any minion that comes from the portal should have the buff at any point in time as per the wording of the card
The technicality that the “portal” is a self replenishing deck is not an excuse for minions to be missing the buffs the portal claims they have
It might have depended on the pirate you played, the way the order of events resolve. Patches would get the buff at some point but not if it was pulled out of deck before the buff was applied to it. I’m not sure on the specific ordering or what pirate you played, but if the pirate drew something, patches put on bottom of deck, then immediately summoned due to the pirate being played, it could have potentially circumvented the buff. Whatever the case is, this is an unlikely interaction, but at least it was an minor upside for you to get Patches from the portal at all, given it’s totally random demons.
this, I don’t remember exactly what happened but my opponent did something like this in standard an I was befuddle for a minute cause I know pulling cards with oaken summons and the tortollen they get the portal buffs
You arent pulling Patches from the portal if Im understanding how that guy works. Also I believe only the demon cards you generate from the portal should be getting the increased stats each turn. SO if something is “shuffled” into your deck when you have no deck but instead a portal where one should be, you are just putting those below the portal, essentially when the portal exhausts itself you will have whatever was shuffled in from earlier to draw from at that point. Patches being Patches doing what it does just means it is occurring like it ought to and always has. You played a pirate and it came from below the portal because you technically have a deck below that portal.
What’s that supposed to mean ?
wrong there is nothing left but the portal, you can steam cleaner and the portal refills, IT IS ENDLESS and currently unremovable
with the inclusion of two type minions patches is a demon pirate so he can be created in the portal
I think(not tested so I could easily be wrong) one of the ways to get minions without there buff is to play a card that has multiple “draw phases” to it(doom with a deathrattle to draw(Blood Mage Thalnos) for example) where the game doesn’t buff in between draws(say doom destroys 2 minions so draws two so portal puts two new demons in portal and you have a 1 in 15 chance to draw and unbuffed demon off your deathrattle before the portal reapplies its buff to all minions in your deck)
Going off of the other person that stated
but i missed or forgot the part where they said
A lot of the time Ill reach the end of a sentence and if i dont go back over it a time or two it isnt uncommon entire parts just didnt exist in it by the time I reach the end. Reading in school was super difficult because of this very issue. Either from required books like Scarlet Letter or the Crucible and so on… many many many times I would have no idea either how what i just read started or ended depending on what actually retained by the end of the sentence/paragraph/page/chapter.
Unless it was written with lots of dialogue that was written like how people sound. so the closer it is to how a play would be written the better i am with retention and comprehension.
The more like prose/narrative/instruction manual/textbook/Scarlet Letter/ The Crucible/ forum posts that dont sound like how a person actually speaks aloud when writing to explain things… the worse off I am.
Simple and common issue i know im not alone in having lol. but my memory isnt helping me any in this common issue either lol.
But the 30 minions deep part stuck out as odd, if its an endless portal, why even assign a numeric value to it at all? I think thats also what threw me into the idea that it would eventually exhaust itself. only encountered the new card once and it was only for 1 entire turn they were able to draw from their portal before I won against them. Havent encountered it since. But that final turn of mine i was able to shuffle in a bunch of things like asteroids but not asteroids… its from an elemental in my brann reno warrior deck. and I saw the cards just sit behind the portal. but obviously i never let them have another turn i just wanted to play the elemental since i knew the game wasnt going another turn lol. So i’ve no idea how the next round would have gone for them.
If patches is summoned on the same turn the portal is opened, no stat buff
But if its a turn or more later it should be buffed
The value of 30 minions in the deck is a restriction they decided on because you cannot program an infinite amount of minions to be in the deck, and have them be buffable. 30 because that’s the normal starting health, and it can force things like Fanottem to always cost 30 mana, instead of 0 or infinite. They could also have programmed it to be 1 minion deep and replace itself, but they choose 30. If it was infinitely deep, each time you played a pirate it would always summon 6 Patches the Pirate from deck (if you are in a format that has Patches). Dredging works on the deck of 30, and so does Lorekeeper Polkelt or Order in the Court, sorting the 30 cards by cost, instead of making all future draws draw from the highest cost demons in existence. Whenever you draw from a sorted deck that uses something like Polkelt, a random demon is added to the bottom of the deck, and the top 29 cards are still sorted, but after you go through all 30 cards you have a random order again.
they probably also chose it because that is the generic(non-renathal) starting deck size
this would probably cause even more minions to get drawn with out the buff, or cards like oaken summon become 99% worse. All cards that draw specific minions wouldn’t function right like “all you can eat” draws 1 demon and then the infinite portal of 1 gets another random demon and becomes 3 mana draw 1
I might test some as irrelevant as it is(personal interest intrigued) but I think the new demons are “added” to random position so although 29 cards are sorted it might add a 1 drop 4 from the top or put a 10 drop 7 from the bottom, not just add new demon to bottom
