Oh noes, report feature coming soon!

Can’t wait till people get reported and banned just because they get lucky.

Yeah lets make it where Minecraft can freely report people just because they have used bad manners.

Where is the announcement?

I can’t wait until people figure out how to abuse the system to ban non offenders. Going to be just like instagram. Everything automated until manual review with a 4 month backlog.

Edit: The announcement is way at the bottom after all the battlegrounds changes.

Additionally, we’re happy to share that player-reporting will soon be added to the in-game friends list menu! You’ll be able to report players from the recent players list (including your current opponent) or from your friends list. Grounds for reporting will include inappropriate names, inappropriate chats, and inappropriate gameplay. We’re putting the finishing touches on this feature, so you’ll see hints of it in the game with this patch, and it’ll become available soon!

Looks like they have to have accepted a friend request to report someone.

I’m going to predict that they will attempt to pretend to be nice in an attempt to get it accepted, then abuse burner bot accounts to pile on the reports. So your account will get (wrongly) flagged for something like gameplay, then some non friend reporting will flood into the blizzard filter until it triggers an automated ban.

This will get reversed on review but with a huge volume of abuse it will create a massive backlog locking players out of their account for months until they get processed.

No.

It shows you more players that you recently played and former friends specifically so you can report people better.

Recent players capabilities have been expanded and improved in the friends list. Now, there will be a dedicated section at the top of your friends list that includes last opponent, former friends, new friends, your current opponent, and more.

Nothing can go wrong with this. feature. It’s not like the community is a bunch of sore loser whiny babies that blame losing on everything except themselves, the real reason they keep losing.

They have a dedicated team that will carefully analyze any ban appeal; probably the same team who playtests new cards :joy:

Let’s be honest to ourselves: do you really think this function will lead to innocent players getting banned? I don’t even think this will help with banning cheaters/bots…
It’s probably there just to make people feel accomplished with themselves: “oh, you emoted me? REPORTED! Ahah, who is laughing now?”; but no one will ever get banned due to this.
I can’t wait to see in few months a video (probably from zeddy) where he shows a cheater cheating at top legend

Imagine getting banned because you said hello at the beginning of the match. It will be automated for sure tho. That’s what killed heroes of the storm.

As Selwynn mentioned, the reportable offenses are intentionally vague to allow for discretion. I worry about that somewhat. I am leaning toward the thinking that (short of actually cheating), what one does on their turn is their business. Consider that we’ve had players, with numerous accounts, mass flag posts here, resulting in their removal. Now, imagine these players mass reporting accounts. This can be trouble.

“Inappropriate gameplay”. Oh boy, that surely won’t lead to false bans.

How on Earth can you get banned in Hearthstone of all places?? Aside from the name thing and offensive chat, which you have to accept their friend req first and then the talking happens, I can’t see how gameplay could be in any way bannable
I guess if they use a game exploit or bug or something? I literally cannot think of any other way

Well, that’s one way to bring down the mage population.

Considering a large portion of the player base considers “my opponent playing cards” to be inappropriate gameplay, yeah. I think so.

Well, lootboxes played a role too.

This has disaster written all over it. WTH is “inappropriate Game Play”?

“They beat me, that’s highly inappropriate.”

If by “carefully analyze” you mean “spend one minute on,” yep. In cases where interaction is brief and innocence is clear — and usually both are true — you can expect reversal if you appeal.

But there’s absolutely not going to be any human review prior to appeal, and you can expect appeals to take a while to process, especially if ban start is outside of normal business hours.

This feature will absolutely be abused to create “time outs” — that is, bans that are eventually repealed — for targeted accounts. However, it wouldn’t be too difficult to anticipate this and to also threaten penalties for inappropriate reporting.

Here’s the thing though: a significant chunk of the Hearthstone playerbase is actually stupid enough to think lucky opponents are cheating. I’m not saying there isn’t any actual cheating going on, but I’m pretty sure there’s ten times as much false accusations as actual cheating, if not more. There’s going to be a flood of inappropriate reporting, and I don’t know how Blizzard is going to handle it because it’s going to be mostly people who likely genuinely believe their false accusations.

Here’s what I really think though:

  1. Blizzard didn’t actually track player dissatisfaction with opponent deck archetype before.
  2. They’re not going to ban anyone for inappropriate gameplay, except actual cheating, ever.
  3. Now they’re going to have data for player dissatisfaction with opponent deck archetype, and they’re going to use this data to make what were previously “subjective” nerf decisions.

This will ruin Hearthstone because it will give pitchforkers a megaphone.

Uh oh guys, I’m gonna get banned for spite roping even though technically it’s not a bannable offense. GG. It was nice knowing ya.

Are you serious? How can we get a report function if we have no chat, seems kinda dumb.

It’ll probably take many reports, and you can’t as easily get people together to mass report since you can’t control matchmaking. Its not like WoW where you are walking along and get seen by trolls and mass reported

Twitch streamers getting report bombed seems very likely.
