It’s probably just the design team running out of ideas. Slow progression of moving one class over to another one and let them bleed into each other.

By the way, Medivh the Hallowed was revealed… It’s a Light-themed Priest card now, apparently… Oh, and just to consider other possibilities, I thought: maybe it’s Arcane temporal magic of the Bronze, like Aman’Thul’s? But no, Atiesh reminds me of Velen now.

O-o-okay… So, all those characters outside their classes look like a common theme now, a pattern. Is that what they meant by strange things out of place or something like it? Not sure I like the design, though, especially in the context of this discussion.

It sort of makes sense from a money grabbing standpoint.

If you have a player who loves to play Control Priest and they have spent money on cards to play that style, you could just move Control over to another class, move Control out of the Priest shell and now you have a player who has to spend more money/resources to continue playing what they like playing but in another class.

I suppose it does, but it looks more complicated to me.

Apparently, there are plenty of people who are sticklers to their traditional class archetypes and identities. Their class might be competitive, but… You give Priests some mighty aggro, and yet they wanna play their slow stuff anyway. Same thing with ‘control’ Warriors… A menagerie DK could probably be the ‘best’ deck at some point, but they’d still play their Blood/Leeches/whatever stuff.

It’s not always ‘rational’, there are also the factors of ‘fun’ and what people want to play — I think you can’t ignore that, and thus I dunno if they’d be prepared to switch classes for that.

Take away those things in that class and give it to another class and then transform their class into something they don’t like, you end up creating a “pay to continue playing what you like or leave” style of game design.

It’s not necessarily about money, either, since, as said, it’s not all that rational.

But people like Mallenroh and other friends I have only play 1-2 classes for specific things.

Speaking of which: I don’t think the first-named keeps lamenting the point about money — it’s more about that ‘class identity’.

What of your other friends, then? It’s interesting to hear someone else’s perspective.

At this point, I’m just waiting for the Rogue reveal to show them getting armor and healing.

Rogue doesn’t really have to change though, they can already get cards from other classes.

Part of the big appeal for Rogue isn’t burgle though.

Oh, speaking of which: whether that ‘Thief’ archetype belongs to Rogues or Priests, remains unclear. But ‘Thief Rogue’ has also been a thing, I think.

The big reason most people play Rogue, especially those at higher levels, is the ability to do APM builds or mana cheating combo builds that require fast play with more than normal thought behind it.

Oh, I’d say the reason is just Roguestone since 2014, i.e. that biggest ‘pet’ class typically being the most ‘busted’. Another reason is all that ‘skill-intensive’ nonsense, i.e. a huge potential for… ridiculous ‘high rolls’.

As for ‘thought’, well…

If they just stopped doing that for Rogue and started doing it for something like Druid, we’d see the shift in the player base at higher levels moving over to Druid to do those things.

Haven’t we already seen that?

Remember all those Paladins with Sassy Feet (aka ‘I ramp like three Druids on fertilisers’, aka the Tourist card)?

Just the ‘Tourist’ thing alone wouldn’t explain it.
