I just opened Vanndar in a Mercenaries pack, despite having him already for months. Happy to attach screenshot.
The Vanndar Stormpike you got from the event was a golden portrait which gives you access the Mercenary. The Vanndar Stormpike from the Mercenary Pack was the base Mercenary. Different items not duplicates.
