Mages in standard?

So…. Are mages just useless in standard, seems like every deck is either too fast or can just throw down too many big minions or shielded meinion to beat a mage by turn 7. This feels like the worst time for mages in a long time in standard, at least there is usually a chance to climb with mage, now it feels helpless.

Quest Mage is a strong deck but it is not easy to play.

Quest mage can work, but unless you manage to get enough removal, decks that are aggressive can kill you before the quest gets online. With how common dragon warrior, dh, hunter and shaman are it can be difficult to play it without being run over even if once quest gets online it can be very strong.

I mainly play quest mage, got a positive winrate in pretty high ranks on two servers. It’s one of the stronger decks right now, main weakness is dragon warrior but you can learn that matchup and do OK against it. Face hunter is even worse obviously but they are pretty rare.

To beat warriors try swapping out first flame for glacial shards to freeze the 6/8’s, it’s pretty handy. First flame is mostly useful against flashback nowadays, used to be really good against imbue druid but since they are gone I think it can be cut maybe.

Deck takes a lot of practice but when you learn the discover pools and matchups you’ll do well against most other classes.

Aggro decks tend to put you real low but the swing turn (5-7) is so powerful that it tends to win on the spot.

Mage is decent in reality.

It is Just not easy to play and require you to be tricky.

When you play mage you have instead of try to “dominate” your opponent. To think about cost and Benefit of your actions.

Take prescient Drake for example:
Most classes would Just try to remove.

But mage ?
It looks at this and think. Can i outpace It? What i could be doing If i ignore It?

Stop trying to take opponents Head on with mage decks. You Just don’t have the board Power to do that.
