If they're putting offers like this in the shop

Then you missed it… here’s the key part of the quote:

is in the middle of a long post… attacking his opponents to make people believe he’s correct.

It’s the definition of irony.

Something you would NEVER do :upside_down_face:

Oh thats nothing.

We have threats with hundreds of posts Like Fox ist right, EVERYONE else not!

Thats why i act like a D…head to him here.

Not only me, but also a few others tried to discuss things objectively with him.

But he is a master of words and turns every sentence the way it suits him.

Or you are simply wrong.

Like now, when he presents himself as the poor victim.

This has a long history.

Fair enough. In my own defense, I did only literally skim this topic for about 10 minutes.

Ehh. I mean, I can’t comment overmuch or else I’d be throwing stones in my own glass house.

I got that part, which is why I clarified that you must have missed it.

I assume you understand what irony is, hehe.

This comparison doesn’t work for the same reason that the earlier attempt to compare it to a tattoo failed: you’re comparing simple on/off events with things that are a) consumables and b) in continuously changing states.

Well - technically you can remove a tattoo. Which makes me wonder which of the two attempts this is making worse; but whatever.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free-to-play#Comparison_with_traditional_model

Player populations that spend money on free-to-play games can be broken up into terms that borrow from gambling: “[whales](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_roller)” which typically are the smallest segment, up to around 10% of players, but are willing to spend the most on a game; “dolphins” which represent a larger portion of around 40% of players who spend some money but not as much as whales; and “minnows”, representing about half the population, who spend the barest amount to maintain activity.[[34]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free-to-play#cite_note-34)[[35]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free-to-play#cite_note-35)

Links to those citations (since some people straw man that “wikis aren’t reliable sources” even though you can very easily verify their sources, and I’m just making it even easier to do so):

Davidovici-Nora, Myriam (2014). “Paid and free digital business models innovations in the video game industry”. Digiworld Economic Journal. 94: 83–102.

You’re a minnow. You spend a bare minimum amount of money to maintain activity.

You’re not “semi-F2P.” You pay to play. You’re a minnow.

Dolphins are semi-F2P, minnows are mainly F2P. These terms do not exclude each other; on the contrary, they complement each other.

How much do you spend per month on average?

Not sure how I missed this thread from 5 days ago, but I have no such offer of a deck for $0.99 on my main account.

No, they pay. F2P has a literal definition, someone who DOESNT make purchases. You are wrong, you will always be wrong.

Semi-F2P is an oxymoron. You literally cant be semi-F2P. You are either F2P, or you’re not. YOU are in the NOT basket.

You are NOT F2P, you are a paying customer. Period.

Timeline is not important here only a select few were given that promotion pack to buy.

Blizzard is experimenting to see what works and what audience to target.

I was offered the pally one, which I obviously bought. I only have this one account, and if we go by the thresholds laid out here:

https://www.gamesbrief.com/2011/11/whales-dolphins-and-minnows-the-beating-heart-of-a-free-to-play-game/

Modelling the freemium power-law

For the purposes of this spreadsheet, I split your gamers into three groups:

Minnows spend the smallest amount possible in a month, typically $1
Dolphins spend a “middling” amount. Typically I forecast they spend an average of $5 per month
Whales spend a lot. Typically I forecast they spend an average of $20 per month.

Then I would technically be a whale. I rather suspect, again going by these standards, that Foxedge would be a Dolphin.

So they’re offering it based on criteria we don’t yet understand.

I don’t spend money at all, but already had every card in the paladin deck.

So, I agree, we don’t know much about who was given the offer, only that Hat confirmed it was not for everyone.

On average I’d say around 10€. That’s about 5 arena tickets, everything else I fund by the f2p gold earned.

That’s roughly $10 USD / month. You’re borderline whale.

To me, this sounds like when they introduced duplicate protection.

Around 3 out of 4 accounts had their “pity timers” reset and got a legendary in the first 10 packs of any given set, while the other 25% didnt, and they just dont want to acknowledge that something in their spaghetti code went wrong.

I’ve seen some different things the last few days.

Right now I have an offer for five packs and a random lego for $5… which is basically a free guaranteed lego pull for the normal price of five packs. That’s a pretty good deal, honestly.

And the Virtues of Handbuff deck is still in my shop, too.

Yes, hence the semi in semi-f2p. If they’re only playing semi which means partially free to play, the logical conclusion is that they also do pay.

Lol. F2P doesn’t refer to people, it refers to the way of playing a game. F2P player doesn’t mean YOU are free to play, it means you are PLAYING a game for free. Big difference.

It’s not. As much as it’s not an oxymoron to say “I am playing the game partially free” or “I pay for some contents” or “I subscribe every other month, followed by a month of free to play”.

Wrong:

You can sum up your argument to the middle part and replace all the “since” with “is” or “is not”, people still don’t talk like that. We use terms to shortcut the obvious.

Semi-F2p doesnt exist. F2P is a VERY black and white term. You either are F2p, or you arent. No middle ground. Zip. Zero. Nada.

You are not F2p, you are a PAYING customer. Period.
