As if it weren’t clear by common sense that semi-something refers to a middle ground, as it always did and always will.

But hey, the same people have no problem with accepting that players who spend a little bit of money are minnows and people who spend more money - but not so much that they become whales - are dolphins.

Replying to the question of how you play a game with I’m a dolphin! is much more instinctively understandable than saying I’m playing it semi-free-to-play.
