I’ve played Hearthstone for a long time, and I honestly think the game has become a complete RNG mess.
Almost every match now seems to revolve around Discover, randomly generated cards, random effects, and answers that were never even in the opponent’s original deck.
You can manage your resources correctly, predict what your opponent might have, play around their cards and make the better decisions — and then some completely random generated card decides the game anyway.
Hearthstone has always had randomness. That used to be part of its charm. But there is a difference between having some RNG in a strategy game and making RNG feel like the main mechanic of the game.
At this point, when I lose, I often don’t feel like my opponent outplayed me. And when I win because of some ridiculous random generation, it doesn’t even feel satisfying either.
The game feels more and more like a casino and less and less like a card game where your decisions matter.
I genuinely used to love Hearthstone, which is exactly why this is so frustrating. I want to lose because someone played better than me, not because the game randomly generated the perfect answer.
Hearthstone has become RNGstone, and I’m tired of pretending this is good competitive gameplay.

I can’t remember the last time I felt like the match outcome was decided by anything either player did. There’s no sense of accomplishment in winning but losing is aggravating because you didn’t do anything to deserve losing

Pretty much sums up the game. I only play it for the card collecting aspect anymore.
Decision making barely matters to the outcome of your game. Then people also use deck trackers so that one of the only skill components actually left - your memory - is completely taken out of it. The “pen & paper” excuse is total crap. Nobody is going to be writing down every single card that both your opponent and yourself draws, every game you play.
Upvoted because you didn’t do the usual meme mistake of saying ALL matches are random. The Law of large numbers does work eventually because even if 80% of matches - or even much more - end up because someone highrolled more than the other the rest matches show up the best people higher in ranks ..eventually ..if the matches are enough.
The problem is that it’s very obnoxious that at least 80% of matches are basically a coin toss and you might not have enough time in a month to even bother to let the Law of large numbers to work.
PS for example I personally don’t bother to go Legend every month anymore, because it’s too blatant that 80%+ of matches are basically whoever highrolled first and I don’t want to waste my time.
