I also had this issue. I know that the card was modified to give empty mana crystals and apparently only power up when creatures die while you hold it (This should be clarified on the card), but it clearly said when I played it that it would give six empty mana crystals and it did nothing.
This cost me crucial matches and I lost 150 gold for the run. A refund would be appreciated and clarifications.
Also broken for me and also feel a refund is fair.
Same here, I just lost 2 games for this, I want a refund, this is just unfair.
Yeah, I just completely wasted a heroic run selecting this card. Set up some cool plays with Valishj, Guff and a bunch of moonfires. Only for nothing to happen 
Can confirm that it’s still bugged. Excited to start a run with a new build after the patch and after it said “gain 1” killed off some of my units while it was in hand. Then it said “gain 10” and I received zero empty mana crystals. Would really like my 150 back. This is not what I paid for. Thank you

Still broken (in hand and deck). I didn’t play Elise much but didn’t her research card start in hand? Swore it did. Figured the change bugged it. Either way, a known bug with such an impact for this long in a pay to play mode (wether it be gold or cash) is disconcerting at best.

Blizzard, I just chose Elise and Academic Research in a paid Duels Run. But the effect of Academic Research did not trigger when the card was played the entire run. So it was a dead card and a liability to have in my deck. I see others are having the same problem. Is there any way you could issue a refund or give a free pass? Thanks.
Add me to the list of people that picked Academic Research and watched as it did absolutely nothing when I cast it. A complete waste of a tavern ticket.
How is it that this bug has been live for 4 days and there has been no response from the devs? People are blowing their time and money on this. This is entirely unacceptable.
The card should have been disabled immediately and everyone who had it in their decks given a ticket as compensation. Period. End of story.
On my latest heroic duel run with Elise, I selected the “academic research” card to be added to my deck. I tried using it on several occasions and it would simply not work. It is just a blank card that costs 3 mana, and does nothing, no matter how many minions die. It just made the run frustrating. I ended up giving up since it makes no sense to continue in the duel run.
Honestly. I have so little gold in this game and losing 150 to a bug feels real bad
