With the new Battle at the End Days quest for Hunters and Warlocks, its already difficult enough to achieve this reward, especially with Warlock.
What makes it worse is that if your last card in hand is Doomguard, you’ve finally emptied your hand and get the reward, but then THE REWARD GETS DISCARDED!?
That makes no sense and should not be the the case.
It makes perfect sense with how timing works in Hearthstone. I’m always with people complaining about inconsistencies, but this isn’t one. It is consistent with how all other Quests work and with how Battlecries work.
Not that hard tbh.
Not sure i’m reading this right. Are you saying Doomguard is one of the cards in your hand to get discarded to get your quest reward then you lose your quest reward as soon as you get it? If so then that’s definitely a bug since Doomguard’s battlecry has to kick in for that to happen.
Or if you mean that you managed to empty your hand aside from Doomguard, then played Doomguard, then lost your reward, then that makes sense for Tick and Tock to go bye bye. edit: Assuming this is the scenario after re-reading.
Wild mode makes it so much easier with access to Tome Tampering.
Not necessarily. If the quest is intended to be a WHEN effect, it is working as intended, because they happen BEFORE BC’s go off. If its intended to be an after effect, its bugged. Hard to say one way or the other based on text, but I am going with not bugged. Your hand was emptied as soon as Doomguard was played, and before its BC resolved.
E: the most basic example is your opponent has Objection in play, and you play Eater of Secrets. What happens? This is how I believe the quest is intended to work, but it does lack clarity.
Eater of secrets kicks in first, I’ve actually had it happen to me, I had Objection in play, they played Eater of Secrets, and it wasn’t countered, it just ate the Objection
Do you have the replay?
It doesnt work that way, never has. EoS gets eaten by Objection, before the BC kicks in, 100% of the time.

Sadly no as I mainly play on mobile, but I do know I had Objection and Counterspell set, they played EoS and both were consumed and I was like wth, I definitely reported it because that didn’t seem right as Objection should have had priority

This thread devolved into a weird topic, SO
Doomgaurd is your final card in hand, you spend mana to play it. Before the battlecry triggers, your quest sees that your hand is empty! Hooray, here is your quest reward! Then Doomgaurd still has a battlecry to resolve so he tries to discard two cards from your hand and ends up pitching the quest reward. Stupid, awkward and unhealthy for the deck, but not a bug.

Weird how they gave quest rewards protection from if your hand is full, but not this

I had a similar experience with the hunter. I played King Maluk as my last card. It ditched my quest reward and then gave me the infinite banana.
What happened? I thought this quest was supposed to be easy mode to complete and combo off with.
Yep, the quest triggers as soon as your hand is empty, but before the card you just played resolves.
If that is a discard effect, you’ll lose the reward.
So next time just try to make sure that it’s the battlecry emptying your hand rather than the minion that’s about to battlecry to discard your hand.

Sorry I never got back to this thread and I see that people are asking for clarification.
I cant remember if my remaining hand was Doomguard +1 card or +2. I thought it was strange that either way, the reward gets discarded when it wasnt in your hand at the time of the battlecry.
Seems like it shouldn’t be that way but it is I guess.
