they do minion types just fine in all languages. the text is already available and constrained to a box in all languages, it’s already been translated.
space is at a premium, yeah. it should only be used for things like core game mechanics that change every single game. i checked, and they’re occupying about 40% of the screen for character select on mobile. they are making poor use of their real estate.
things like hero powers, minions, spells, they do the same thing all of the time, you have plenty of time to sit and look at them, that reinforces learning about them. they’re a part of the game that you interact with for the entire game. if you don’t know what a minion or spell does, there are other paths to winning the game.
what we’re talking about with anomalies isn’t an item in the game it’s a game mode.
it completely changes, starting with your first rushed play, how the game is played.
it isn’t like a minion where not knowing what it does loses you fractional win %. it is often win/loss to understand what it does and adjust your gameplay.
there is no excuse for something like that not to be prominently displayed on character select at the beginning of the game.
hero powers, minions, and spells also happen on the actual game screen instead of there being a context switch from select to “okay game screen go you have 20 seconds to make a decision” (changing the turn 1 and 2 timers slower would not fix this btw).
it’s weird that you’re trying to excuse bad game design when anomalies were clearly added very late in development and get turned on and off so were not properly designed for and kinda hacked in visually. the game interface was not designed for anomalies, i mean hell, it wasn’t even designed for battlegrounds.
gaming is for everyone. i learned all of the other stuff before i lost the ability to learn. so maybe you don’t know what it’s like to not be able to learn. my apm is terrible bc i still have to double check what a lot of minions do, but when i’m interacting with them 1000 times a day it starts to stick. stuff like being upfront and prominent with things that change instead of hiding them really helps people like this.
there is zero required interactivity with anomaly icons. it is not an active part of the game to interact with them at any time. the text is flashed on the screen for a second and if you blink you miss it, never shown again. buried away. and if you miss it, you lose the game turn 1 and have to play out a 30 minute loss.
