Cataclysm reads “Destroy all minions. Discard your hand.” In that order, mechathun’s deathrattle should trigger before you discard your hand. It should be rewritten “destroy all minions AND discard your hand” or the mechanic should be fixed to not trigger. Pretty BS anyways.
A spell phase must complete before other phases (such at the Deathrattle phase) can fire.
Cataclysm sets all minions to be destroyed. Cataclysm discards your hand. Mechathun Dies. Mechathun’s Deathrattle triggers.

Understood. To be consistent, I would suggest that the upcoming card “Plague of Death” be written “Destory all minions. Silence all minions.”
