I don’t think so. Damage done to you is done to your opponent, the quest is not an entity, the imp literally damages the opponent instead of me. This is definitely a bug 
edit: moreover, even if what you’re saying applies, the damage done was damage from a lifesteal source one way or another, the quest shouldn’t be able to “cleanse” damage or something… that doesn’t sound at all logical.
