I watched all the regions and about 18 hours of GM this week (for some reason xD). Overall I thought the matches were pretty decent. It’s fun to see the meta differences in different regions too.
It seems Druid is way ahead of the pack this week in GM. In a meta where it was either banned or targeted, it had a win percentage around 60%!
Fel Demon Hunter was the 2nd best deck. The most popular versions were Jace and Demonhunter Kurtrus wombo combo, but there were was some decent success with versions running Kaz too.
Those two decks were in basically every line-up. Other top decks included Poison Rogue and Burn Shaman(debatable)
Libram Pali saw quite a bit of action too, as well as a decent amount of Quest Rogue. These decks seemed more there to pick up a win or two. Ramp Druid, Fel Demon Hunter and Poison Rogue were the decks played for real sweep potential.
Some of the top cards included:
Guff and other ramp- playing with a big mana advantage helped Druid win even in some of the unfavorable matchups. I saw a few times where they even let Troggs fill the board, for the sake of ramping, only to later clear them off and stabilize. Guff is the best card in the game right now in My opinion. Powerful when played, enables cheaty combos later with 10+ mana
Scale of Onyxia- aoe for ramp druid, lol… won at least as many games as Kaz did.
Solar eclipse- more ramp, more token buffs, more armor, more treasure value. Whatever Druid was trying to do, this made it better.
Kazakusan - this card, like Druid, was played early and often. Sometimes treasure outcomes weren’t so great, but on average it was a super effective win-con. A lot of the success came from Druid ramp enabled combos(plus solar eclipse) or Demon Hunter quest discounts to be fair. Some Demon Hunters had success with it too. Control warrior versions didn’t perform that well though overall. When control warrior did win, it was usually because they had a decent matchup.
Cloak of shadows- cheese wins games… Poison Rogue would have not been queued up if this card didn’t exist
Wildpaw cavern- when this card was bloomed out early, burn shaman looked like an unstoppable force. If it came down turn 5 or later, Burn shaman struggled to get there.
Kurtrus- this card plus the wombo combo with expendable performers was a big reason for Demon Hunters success. Minion reliant strategies were soft-locked out of the game when he was online. Lifesteal certainly didn’t hurt the cause.
Honorable mention: Rustrot Viper
This card was ran in A LOT of lists, the amount of vipers ran really showed the respect that the players were giving to Demon Hunter ,Poison Rogue, and Lightforged Cariel. It was probably the most ran card just because it was in so many lists.
What were some of the take aways you all had from GM last weekend?
Were there other decks or cards that caught your eye?
