It’s one thing after another. Over the last three years Hearthstone has only added more ways to spend money. I wish you could see that its not JUST about the game being fair, or accessible, or affordable, its also about the game being COMFORTABLE. Now, after this announcement, I can no longer sit in the Hearthstone client and feel like I’m not just in a digital shopping mall. Every time I log into the client or access a mode, I feel like I’m being asked to spend money. I’m so SICK of it. I literally go to the main menu to access a new mode or open a pack and get a POP-UP about a promotion in the store, and then I got into Mercenaries and get ANOTHER pop-up. And then there’s the Mini-Set! And then when I go to the store to buy a pack I have to scroll through 20 different things on sale just to get to a standard pack at the bottom of the list to purchase with my gold.
I’ve spent more money on Hearthstone than any other hobby in my life, and yet the game won’t let me be. Hearthstone won’t stop asking me for MORE money. I’m done. From this day forward I will log into the client to play a friendly game with my partner and spend quality time with her. I’m done with quests. I’m done with the rewards track. I’m done with expansions. I’m done with this stinking money-grabbing scheme.
I was wondering with all these games coming out this Fall where I was going to find the time to play them. You just freed up ten hours of my week. Thank you, Blizzard.

explain it however you want, but putting the ability to choose between 4 heroes behind a paywall is incredibly toxic and a slap in the face to your player base. im not here to “support” your investors

I’ve been questing and earning gold since BGs came out and I’ve been able to play with 4 pickable heroes until now, and you are moving it behind a paywall. Shame on you blizzard. And you are adding a new and more confusing currency into the game when it wasn’t needed. Your monetization decision makers are bad.
To all the devs who pour their love into this game and game mode, thank you.
Dear blizzard, you are not getting a single more cent out of me for BGs. I’m going to play with 2 hero choices and never buy another cosmetic again until you figure out how to make games right again.

Incredibly disappointing. I’ve discussed this with a pal and we both absolutely the game; we aren’t willing to support this kind of monetisation. Battlegrounds has become a fun and beloved mode because it’s fair: you can pay for convenience, but ultimately, everyone eventually can realistically save up enough gold for the pass. With this change, you’re killing off a percentage of the player base who want to remain F2P.
‘Though the ability to choose from among four heroes at the beginning of a match is changing to a paid-only feature, all players can still play Battlegrounds for free. We’re committed to maintaining hero and gameplay balance so that the choice from four heroes is more about optionality than power.’
Might as well be translated to: ‘We know that having 4 hero choices rather than 2 is a clear advantage so we’re changing the system so that you physically can’t save up in-game currency for what was supposed to be a fun, free mode, but we’re going to pretend that isn’t an issue because we like money and don’t like bad PR’.
There were so many ways to monetise battlegrounds (which wasn’t even necessary in the first place, it’s supposed to be a fun game mode on the side), but this was one of the worst way it could be done.
This is indicative of the company changing for the worse as a whole, starting with World of Warcraft and Diablo and creeping throughout the entirity of the business. This is greed, plain and simple, and you are killing your own games and player bases.
I absolutely love Battlegrounds, but I won’t be spending a penny or playing it anymore.

Ya, no thanks. Just uninstalled. BGs was one of the few mobiles games I’d play because of the low barrier of entry. I’d on occasion pick up a cosmetic with real money. Not interested anymore though.

Eliminating 4 hero selection is going to kill the gamemode, period. I know the last season change, when there was about 5 days where buying the pass with gold was locked, I didn’t enjoy bg at all, and didnt bother playing until that bug was fixed. Not only that, but the main reason for leavers is they didnt like their choices, so they concede and try for 4 more choices in a different game (most people dont care about their rank).
Could care less about everything else, just give an easy, free access, of having 4 hero selection, or else the game mode is dead.
“Season Pass will also immediately unlock the option to choose from two additional heroes at the start of each game.” This is not cosmetic! It’s the only reason anyone buys the season pass. I’ve already quit Diablo Immortal. I guess Hearthstone is next…

please people i beg of you! do not buy these things when they come out. if everyone stick together and say enough is enough they will be forced to change it. we need to put our money where our mouth is! everyone unite against blizzard and their shady tactics. the more ppl who buy these things the more blizz will do it. in other game modes and even other games. LETS STICK TOGETHER! and show blizz what community means

this is a sad day , really sucks ive played hearthstone a long time and have bought plenty in this game throughout the years , making bg’s p2w is just a slap in the face. if/when this goes through i will be deleting and wont look back . theyre gonna mess around and make every game like diablo immortal and that just isnt my cup of tea

So, BG is getting ever more popular, and you just have to find a way to get more money from this “failed” cash grab mode? hence the runestone currency.
Enough is enough.
I couldn’t care less about BG.
But it’s getting annoying AF that the game size getting bigger and bigger, and the majority of traditional HS players don’t even want to get updates for something they don’t touch at all.
Let BG (& Merc) have their own platforms. It’s ridiculous.
Or are you afraid that without HS, BG is nothing but trash? just like D:Immoral?

Just want to clear something up.
Blizzard don’t care about how many people play the game. They care about how much money the game makes. This is why they stopped reporting WoW numbers. Who cares if the game is dying, when the few people left are spending more and more.
Go ahead and quit BGs. If they lose the 50% who play for free, Blizzard lose $0. To those who remain, just don’t get confused and think that the content they make with this new ‘subscription’ cash will be freely available.

Hearthstone is officially a typical garbage mobile game with virtual currency that won’t match the selling price in shop and where money is required to play the mode fairly.
Never hate a compagny like I hate blizzard right now.
Ringmaster is obviously a troll or employee. 159 post total, a huge part of those post of are reply about how this patch is amazing. Ignore him and focus on blizzard only.

This is what will happen.
I purposely stay at the 2000 level as I have no interest in competitive BG (nor regular HS either; just do the 5 monthly wins for the cardback) and roughly 90% of the games are currently with - maybe - 3 players trying to win. The rest do indeed quit out (to re-roll? to lower MMR?).
Wait, didn’t I JUST buy a rewards thing like less than a month ago with the new HS expansion?

All the words were said. I am seriously considering leaving HS for good. I have been playing and spending money since the Naxxramas expansion. So much money. No problem.
Making BGs a P2W game is the worst possible decision. The rune system is the second worst.

as someone who plays battlegrounds casually and just for fun i think season 2 sounds very cool
i never really cared about getting to pick between 4 heroes instead of 2. now i even get free portraits and emotes too. and the new quests seem fun
