34.0 Patch Notes

I gave you a reference where it comes from, no surprise here.

The thing is, your (stereo)typical Slavic folklore is more than a thousand year old, from pagan (pre-Christian) times and all that, i.e. definitely before the Baptism of Rus’, to have some definite milestone, which is dated 988.

There I was, thinking: I don’t think chess as we know it has been in Europe in general (or maybe even called chess, as opposed to chaturanga, shatranj or whatever; oh, and modern rules are even younger, but this is of no import here) for that long, so it reeked of an anachronism, but maybe not so much, for example:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_chess#Russia

Hmm, maybe it’s been a good opportunity for a little historical exersise like that. Maybe one could look into it further.

Of course, I could have been overthinking it, and the term could have been a later addition, as yet another euphemism for a devil (speaking of which, it’s more of a concept in Christianity, I would think) or something like that. It probably is from some local dialect(s), too.

Who do you take me for?

I did type the world into some search engines (the usual stuff, in my case the habitual DuckDuckGo and Startpage for reproducible results) and found this explanation (essentially, a devil being painted like a chessboard), for example:

https://dic.academic.ru/dic.nsf/vasmer/51541/шехматик

The thing is, there’s not much more than that, but maybe there shouldn’t and I’m overthinking it again.

They might have done some testing internally and figured out the obvious problem. I’m not even sure a player’s experience of ‘testing’ it and facing a bunch of Murloc Paladins, as expected, would be that great, to be honest — not something I’d look forward too.

Oh, wait, what do you know… According to the reports below, you might have your chance to ‘enjoy’ the opportunity.

Lol.

What was I saying?

And here we are again. It’s their invariant, apparently.

 Consider it a bonus.

The laughter is not directed at you, of course, sorry that happened, it’s about them again, of course.

Thanks for a ‘heads-up’, a warning to you and everyone reporting the issue, I suppose I’ve gotta wait until they actually sort it all out…

Are you all sure that you were not playing against Paladin with murlocs, but without the quest? Because I have just won against such a deck.

Btw after this experience I doubt that smth could be different if my opponent could have the quest. I played Quest Warlock, as I predicted, it is completely broken in the format of the brawl. My opponent had no chances with the quest or without.

Stor overthinking and get some free packs

Quest Warlock is OP as I predicted; I am playing by rolling my face across the keyboard right now and have 6 wins several times in a row anyway. It is as simple to get the rift on the turns 4-5 as usual. During my first run I completed the quest on the turn 3 twice.

Alright, decided to write a more detailed reply than just leaving a link to this topic: 🔥 35.6 - Highlights & Known Issues .

In particular, the issues discussed here have been reported and acknowledged:

Ironically, the Paladin quest isn’t listed as banned.

Oh, and it might be the issue of cheaters again, I dunno. Can you add it to the deck normally now?

I’d be careful and wait until they fix those bugs, perhaps. Don’t wanna stumble into any annoying bugs with no rewards, don’t wanna play against bugs or cheats… And I’d advise everyone else to exercise caution as well, at the very least.

Yeah, told you it’d be the next candidate (for a go-to ‘OP’ deck based on old cards to farm the brawl with, if you want to) to come to my mind.

Dunno, over a larger amount of games, it might be worse without the Sketch Artist, at the very least. I’d say that’s the biggest loss compared to the ladder version, other missing cards are more of extras — since other decks are weaker, too, it might not matter in the end, but this one makes the quest less consistent than in Standard.

PS Having done the ‘Ranked’ weekly quest and ending on a high note, so to speak, for once, decided to stop there (maybe it’ll be the final positive memory of this deck, who knows)… So, I suppose, there’s no rush and almost a week — or whatever remains of it — ahead to play the brawl… Provided, hopefully, they fix it. Gonna wait a bit for now, then we’ll see what happens.

If you have nothing useful to contribute, why don’t you just shut up? Sorry, couldn’t help it.

Seriously: The developers are running Wild Mode, and this card is a fundamental part of the deck. Expecting a fix after two months is NOT an unreasonable demand.

And Twist (remember that?), and Mercenaries, and Solo Adventures… You get the idea? Of more or less abandoned modes, that is.

PS
Listed as ‘resolved’:

Dunno how true that actually is (see also the comments above).

PS Just noticed something:

Hmm, I don’t think this somewhat technical term was in my vocabulary. You never know where you can learn something new — even a new word from a non-native or less proficient speaker. Thank you!

Yes, you are right. I have seen it a few minutes ago. I was just frustrated. But now they fixed it. Therefore, I take back my first post.

 But have you play-tested it? Have they fixed it for real?

Yeah, I did! (Against Inkeeper and a friend also played on Ladder Reno Pally). The devs have definitely solved the problem. Mirage is working as intended again.
