There was no update countdown active last night and no in game messages about it, so I was kicked off unexpectedly. The maintenance was apparently scheduled during the last two hours of the gem surge event, which was problematic. Support ticket said to post here.

There are also notifications in the Battle.Net app whenever any maintenance is approaching. Wednesday maintenances start at 03.00 a.m. server time, most usually.
And in the Event’s main page it’s clearly stated the start and end date/time. Current Spark Resurgent event will be running from 07/29 03:00 a.m. to 08/26 03:00 a.m. (server time).
These “warnings” should be more than enough to be aware of when the event will end, IMO.
Unless your server “closed” before the announced scheduled maintenance, there’s no bug here.
