Incorrect world-space UI positioning and lower internal rendering resolution when using a portrait secondary monitor

In addition to a description of the bug you are reporting, please provide:

Device Type: PC
Device Model: Minisforum UM790 Pro
Device Operating System: Windows 11 Pro
Diablo Immortal App Version: 5.0.1.0.46912050.3710867.E.37.D Windows

Environment:
Windows 11 25H2 (Build 26200.8457)
Primary monitor:
Lenovo L32p-30
3840×2160 @ 60 Hz
Connected via USB-C → DisplayPort
Windows scaling: 150%
Secondary monitor:
1920×1080
Connected via HDMI

Steps to reproduce
Connect a 4K monitor as the Windows Primary display.
Connect a 1080p monitor as the secondary display.
Set the secondary monitor to Portrait orientation.
Launch Diablo Immortal.

Expected result
Game renders correctly at native 3840×2160.
World-space UI (floating nameplates above players, NPCs and monsters) appears at the correct positions.

Actual result
Diablo Immortal still reports the display resolution as 3840×2160.
The 3D scene appears to render at a lower internal resolution (higher than expected frame rate).
Floating nameplates are rendered at incorrect positions (approximately half the correct screen coordinates).
Mouse cursor positioning and normal HUD elements remain correct.
Only the world-space UI appears to be affected.

Temporary workarounds
Any of the following restores correct rendering:
Toggle Windowed → Fullscreen.
Change Windows Display Scaling while the game is running (for example 150% → 100%).
Change the display topology (changing the Windows primary monitor also corrected the issue).
Set the secondary monitor back to Landscape orientation before launching the game.

After the rendering has been initialized correctly, the game continues to work normally even after changing Windows scaling back to 150%.

Additional observations
The issue only occurs when the secondary monitor is in Portrait orientation.
When the secondary monitor is changed back to Landscape, the issue disappears.
Limited testing suggests the issue does not occur when the portrait monitor is configured as the Windows Primary display.
The problem is reproducible without any High DPI compatibility overrides enabled.
Deleting the game’s configuration files (Config and BaseUserPresets.ini) does not resolve the issue.
Reinstalling Windows also did not resolve the issue.

Performance observation
When the bug is present:
Frame rate is significantly higher than normal (suggesting the game is rendering internally at a lower resolution).
When the bug is absent:
Frame rate drops to the expected level for native 4K rendering.
Nameplates immediately appear at the correct positions.

Ah, so it’s the secondary monitor in portrait. Both of my PCs are like that and both have that problem (done full Diablo Immortal re-installs). I couldn’t understand why 2 completely separate PCs with different hardware and different installs had the same problem.

One work around to keep setting the secondary monitor to portrait is set the resolution of DI to 1080p and use RSR (I have set to other resolution but the name plate mis-placement will happen). However, DI will set the resolution of the main monitor to 1080p as well (looks like another bug but I think it’s the side effect of porting a mobile game to Windows) which is bad for putting the DI screen on the 1080p monitor for auto-battle while doing works on the 4K monitor.

I just let the game load, then go to Display settings in game, change the resolution and click No/Cancel when it asks if I want to keep the new settings. This corrects the UI for the session.

Problem has not been corrected in latest patch released today (5.0.2.0.xxxx)

It seems every time we change some graphics settings which requests DI to recalculate the graphics, UI will be corrected for the session. I think if we change these graphics settings, DI will force Windows to talk to the monitor and correct UI will be resulted for the session. However, the bug is caused by the initialization of the graphics when DI starts. Above is just my speculation for I am not the software developer. I have just reported this bug and I think Blizzard will need some time to fix it even if they want to.

Edit 1: Oh, the RSR workaround (if you are using AMD graphics adaptor. Don’t know if NVidia one will work) works all the time even when DI is initiated. The problem is the resolution of the 4K monitor will be set to 1080p when DI is running.

Edit 2: Setting the Windows graphics scaling to 100% is also a permanent workaround if you don’t mind having tiny texts on the 4K monitor which is not bearable for me.

Edit 3: The third workaround is to set the display mode to Windowed mode. It works surprisingly well for my setup. Only a small flaw is that there will be an ugly title bar at the top of the screen and a task bar (which can be hidden by a Windows Setting.)
