⚠️ Banned Twice in 3 Days... for No Reason!

Hello,

I started the game about three weeks ago, and I’ve already been banned twice in three days (the first ban only lasted one day, but this latest one is for three days).

Action Taken: Temporary Suspension (3 Days) and Warning
Offense: Exploitation – Automation (Botting), Hacks, or Third-Party Software

After the first ban, I submitted an appeal, but I was simply told that the sanction was confirmed because “my account was banned for cheating.” That’s completely untrue, and I’m trying to understand the situation so it doesn’t keep happening — which is exactly what just did.

I play on my PC with multiple monitors, logged into my Battle.net account, and I use a Bluetooth-connected “8BitDo Pro 2” controller. I don’t spam inputs at all, and this seems like a pretty basic PC gaming setup to me. Just to be clear: I play 100% F2P, and I haven’t spent anything in the shop so far.

As a new player discovering the game and its issues, I’m turning to the community to ask: is there anything concrete I can do, or am I just doomed to give up on the game?

Before posting here, I read a few threads and noticed that false positives seem to be fairly common… It’s honestly scary that Blizzard doesn’t respond to this. Personally, it completely kills my motivation to invest time (and potentially money) in the game.

For the record, I submitted an appeal for my second ban just a few minutes ago, but I’m dreading the response.

Thanks in advance for your help!

PS : English is not my first language, sorry for any mistakes !

I am hypothesizing here. This last couple weeks, lots of reports of people claiming they were falsely suspended for “boting, hacking, 3rd party”. Every one of them, so far, has used a controller. Try playing without a controller for a while.

I have no evidence that Blizzard is doing an anti-bot measure and it’s possible if they are that false positives come up and impact players.

I’m adding your story to a thread and hoping to get some transparency

Thanks for the reply RedOctober, I did notice you’ve been responding to threads about unjustified bans !

In a way, it’s reassuring to know that I’m not the only one and that this is actually a broader issue affecting a number of players.

I refuse to believe Blizzard won’t do anything about it. We’re clearly dealing with a wave of false positives here.

To all players out there : I strongly encourage you to speak up — describe your ban situation with as much detail as possible on the forum and don’t hesitate to submit support tickets as well !
Sure, Blizzard probably doesn’t read the forums, and 9 times out of 10 you’ll get an automated response to your ticket but it’s a collective movement that can help push things forward.

I won’t use the language “unjustified bans” I’m not Blizzard, I’m just a player. I can’t adjudicate on that decision.
But can help make issues more visible. I can’t flick the switch to return your account; no one i talk to can either. But i will rally the issues, let Blizzard be aware and react

Just for your information, today I received a response from Blizzard regarding my appeal following my latest ban.

Unsurprisingly, they gave me a politically correct answer that contains absolutely no useful or concrete information:

After conducting the appropriate investigation, we can confirm that this penalty was manually reviewed, which means it was not an error; the action was correctly applied and therefore will be upheld. In this case, we cannot provide any further details regarding this penalty.

I still have no idea why this happened, so it could happen again and again to anyone, since the answers given are always worthy of a bot.

Anyway, gg Blizzard — you’re driving your players away, even though it’s those very players who make your existence possible. Such a shame.

Same thing happened to me too. I only got to play the game for 2 days! & for someone to make the suggestion of removing the controller that allows us to play from a controller experience is bonkers if you ask me

You can alternatively play with a different controller. But no controller is a cheaper option. Tests a hypothesis of the controller is the issue.

I am taking a stab in the dark, so you may be suspended anyway.
I don’t use a controller, and I have clan mates who HAVE to use a controller , iow by necessity and not preference.

But that’s only your choice

nahh I’m good, I’ll just play a game that actually cares about its new players not to boot them for false accusations. Ridiculous. the fact that anyone would suggest alternatives even though their controller support page is 3 years old with no updates says it all to me. just came here for answers & I found them.
edit: btw in 2 days aprx. 32hrs nonstop I got my paragon to almost 300. shouldve invested my time on a different game honestly

This has happened to me and there is one thing I have in common with you I use the same 8BitDo Pro 2 controller on my phone. The fact that I have to go onto chatGPT to even remotely get an answer which wasn’t an answer it just led me here. I’ve been banned twice. I had no idea they were triggering even on PC…

Interesting, GodRedeemed, thanks for your feedback !

Indeed, the 8BitDo Pro 2 Controller is not listed among the controllers supported by the game according to the official list, which hasn’t changed in the past three years.

However and I haven’t seen this explicitly mentioned anywhere, having a list of supported controllers does not mean that controllers not on the list are forbidden. In a computing sense, “supported” has no direct link to the concept of being “allowed.” Here’s a quick explanation from ChatGPT:

In a computing context, “supported” means:

“Compatible and officially handled by the game, because it has been tested and validated by the publisher/developer.”

It has absolutely nothing to do with being “allowed” in a regulatory or disciplinary sense.
It’s purely a technical notion: if your controller is on the list, the game is expected to recognize it and work properly with it.

If that’s the case, Blizzard should be transparent about whether this list is strict or not, and above all clarify whether we’re talking about “supported” controllers or “allowed” controllers because that changes the situation drastically.

On top of that, I’ve read all sorts of things over the past few weeks. Some people have been banned even though they were using controllers from the official list. So for now, the idea that controllers could be the cause of the bans is still just a hypothesis. Blizzard has been completely silent on the matter, so we’re left to figure things out on our own — even though it would be so much easier if they helped us cross-reference data. They surely have a number of logs, and with that I’m sure we could separate fact from fiction and identify a pattern causing the bans. (That said, it does seem the issue has been raised internally and they’re looking into it, but since there’s no official communication, doubts remain sadly)

One more thing if you don’t mind me asking, what model of phone are you using ? I’ve read that certain models can cause problems because the OS skin installed on the phone can include apps that impact the game, and might therefore be considered third-party programs (I’ve read in particular about Xiaomi phones with HyperOS and the “Game Turbo” app).

EDIT 08/12/2025 : Alright, I wanted to make a new post, but since my last message is already the most recent one, I get “An error occurred: Please wait for other users to participate before replying,” so I’m forced to just edit my last message.

I just got my third suspension for the same reason as the last two :grimacing:

On the PC I play on, before each gaming session, I killed any Windows processes/services that could potentially be considered “sensitive,” such as anything related to Razer (I have a Naga mouse that can be used to make macros) / Logitech (I have a Logitech keyboard that can be used to make macros) / Corsair (I have a Corsair headset nothing noteworthy there, but better safe than sorry).

For the record, I never launched the game on my phone, so the suspension definitely happened after a PC gaming session.

I deliberately kept using my 8BitDo Pro 2 controller connected via Bluetooth, so I was expecting another suspension to happen.

It’s worth noting that on another account, I use a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller connected via USB and so far I haven’t been suspended (I play much less on that account cause’ it’s just for testing what might or might not trigger a suspension).

For now, it’s hard to draw conclusions since Blizzard is staying completely silent on the matter, but all this could reinforce the idea that the controller might be the trigger for these account suspensions.

Of course, I filed an appeal, and I’m already laughing in advance at the nonsensical response I’m going to get…

So not hard evidence, but doesn’t disprove it neither. The only 8bit controller on the approved list is “8bitdo SN30 Pro Controller” so you could be suspended on the main because of this fact. But still controller related. I don’t know if that’s the. Equivalent controller or not.

You might be laughing, but I’m not. I’ve maintained a clean account for 21 years with Blizzard and now I have a ban on my record for a fault in their OWN fraud detection system.

Oh no, I’m definitely not going to laugh because I’m in the same situation : I’ve had a Battle.net account for a little over 20 years now to actively play another game (you can easily guess which one but that’s not the point here) without ever having the slightest issue with bans/suspensions/warnings, etc. And now BAM three suspensions in just one month of gameplay without doing anything blameworthy, which tarnishes my Battle.net account, and I’m beyond disgusted about it…

Blizzard, what are you actually waiting for to take action ? Tell us. As for me, I’ve gone to great lengths to give as many details as possible to help you, both in my appeal requests and through tickets, yet I’ve only received responses that, unfortunately, did nothing to move the issue forward despite the fact that it’s very real…

I also have a ticket ongoing as I would love to play this game on phone with a controller but all it does is banning me :frowning: / I used the gamesir x2s (not anymore)

Here is the latest answer from Blizzard where I have tried to be as clear as possible. I am almost certain that this is just a bot answering. Makes no sense for me atleast. There is no third party programs running with that controller…:

Direct Quote (withouth name ofc):
''I’ll be happy to assist you today by answering your questions, first things first, Blizzard do not sanction accounts just because you are using a controller to play, there are some restrictions for games to avoid unfair advantage between players but that is not the case with Diablo immortal.

Now take in count that the use of unauthorized third-party software is sanctionable so I would encourage you to avoid using such short cuts in order to avoid any sanction being applied to the account.

If there is anything else we can assist you with, please feel free to reach out to us.‘’

@RedOctober, I know you have gathered all threads related to this, if you want I can add them to my ongoing ticket and inform them that this is a larger problem than this. Can you link it in here and I can follow up on my ticket trying to explain that this is a larger issue than me.

All fine ofcourse if you do not want to do that.

We need official Blizzard technical support to address this issue, not rely on users like Red October, no matter how good their intentions are. He’s just a user like the rest of us.

This literally just happened to me too… I’ve been playing for about a week and started using my Gamesir Cyclone 2, within a day or two I got suspended for 24h and so I uninstalled the controller software and stopped using it and went back to my old Xbox 360 controller, and just now got suspended for 72h. Blizzard really needs to get its act together. Customer disservice only copypasta’d a form letter response without actually addressing any of my concerns and gave zero guidance on what went wrong. I’ve been a long time customer and this has me reconsidering ever spending money with Blizzard again.

Damn, it’s scary seeing all these new reports and there’s no way Blizzard can pretend they don’t have enough info/logs/evidence pointing to a malfunction in their cheat/third-party detection system :no_mouth:

Blizzard, have you actually listened to your players ? All we see is that you’re busy checking the login issue on iOS devices (as mentioned in the forum header), but that doesn’t do us any good because if we do manage to log in and play we’re still at risk of getting suspended/banned for no reason…

I’m up to 15 forum posts of people getting suspended for “boting, hacking, exploitating”… And a couple different content creators have covered it…

Speaking generally: ban/suspensions are not easily addressable. It must be handle internally, by a different team then Dev, and case by case. It’s possible we are pointing at the controller as a red herring and it’s something else that causes the suspension, wired controller vs wireless is an example.

While any suspension is an inconvenience, on the plus side there are only 1-3 days, as I hear it; as opposed to a full on perma-ban. Whenever you get the suspension, feel free to post each one here and appeal it. Especially if you were snagged as a false-positive, to provide Blizzard feedback.

Personally i will recommend you stop using the controller for a time to see if that helps. Changes in the pattern may be helpful

I wouldn’t recommend telling people to stop using officially supported controllers. Particularly when they’re gaming on a PC and getting banned for using an Xbox or PS controller… Sure they can go with off brand third-party controllers, but I think they would be increasing their risk more than decreasing it.

The ban process is escalating, it starts out as a 24 hour ban then goes to three days and then continues upward beyond that. I’ve seen at least one thread where someone has a 30 day suspension. So it’s no comfort that the ban times are small because your record is now tarnished and can get worse.

Others option to stop using the controller is to go out and buy another controller. One option is cheaper that the other.

The best way to determine the root cause is change one variable at a time. Once controller is determined, or not, next steps can happen.

Yes suspensions will increase in length, with repeated offences. And someone with 30 days has likely had more or bigger infections. Continuing your gaming pattern, unchanged, will result in more offences. If we can identify controller or not, then you won’t hit perma.

If you change your controller usage, and STILL get a suspension, then you were going to get it anyway and the controller isn’t the issue. I’d rather you, and others, never get banned… But if there is a suspension waves, it’s reacting to some bots… If you are getting flagged as a bot (and assuming you aren’t) then change how you play. Many people can, either by using a different controller or no controller. Another, much harder problem to crack is 3rd party software running on your device. You can alternately buy a new PC/Android/Apple. But again, i think stop using a controller is a cheaper alternative.

But yes some people also don’t have those luxuries: including people with limited physical abilities, who MUST play on a controller because of a lack of dexterity.

The final A-B test will of course be to stop playing, which is a nuclear option.

Try the controller option
