Yearly Expansions Confirmed

No surprise to me as I felt this was coming but here it is.

Well, ok, but first… if they could just address all of the underlying issues.

From the link:
“However, the community is already voicing concerns about the development team’s bold plans, criticizing the fact that players will need to buy full-price expansions every year to unlock fresh content like new classes, while others hope for regular extensive and meta-changing content drops full of “new systems and reworks.””

It’s not enough that the game is monetized through battle passes, a $10 price increase, and a cosmetics shop, we now have to have an expansion released every year on top of all these things to nickel and dime the consumer base as much as we can.

My guess is that Activision wants to follow the Destiny route of content support since it’s very obviously lucrative for Bungie. It would be unfortunate if Diablo ended up being the same way.

To be honest I won’t mind paying for a Reaper of Souls level expansion to fix D4. Yes it sucks that D4 had problems but that cost of D4 is a sunk cost. If I was willing to take a risk on D4 at launch, why would I not be willing to pay for the game to be fixed? Blizzard hasn’t put out a bad Diablo expansion yet so my expectations are high.

You shouldn’t have to pay money for Blizzard to fix their game.

Okay I mean that’s a nice theory but it’s a sunk cost. Where I am now, my options are to not buy the expansion and miss out on the good version of D4 or to buy the expansion and enjoy a fun game

Should D4 have been at launch? Sure. But it came out and here we are now.

They need to fix the game first.

I’m not concerned about spending more money on an expansion.

I’m concerned that the expansions won’t be impactful enough

Normally you wait about 2 years and an expansion comes with so much more content and a complete overhaul of the game and it’s systems.

Annual releases sounds like Assassins Creed and FIFA.

UGH.

I like the game. That being said, they need to make some major improvements in QOL and content if they expect people to purchase another expansion in less than a year.

it wont be ros level if they are crapping out one per year lol

Maybe we will get more news about the first expansion at Blizzcon in November. Let the Karens rage.

So expansion drops, no one pays for it, in a month they put the expansion on sale, problem solved. Guarantee people will buy it once it goes on sale.

My same concern…

Hopefully we’re wrong, but I have serious doubts.

They do it cuz whales and other such people keep gobbling it up. That is why there are 25 dollar cosmetics in a game that already costs 70 dollars.

Mmmmmm can’t wait. I want it now!

I just want to know, are we paying to get the game fixed more with each expansion, or are we getting the fixes anyways and the expansion will only be new content?

The former is a dead no but the latter is okay.

We know they’ve held back WT5 for the expansion. That alone will have an impact on the end-game problem plaguing D4 currently. I also suspect that the first expansion will reintroduce set items.

Expansion 2 will have had time to cook as well since Expansion 1 gets the benefit of being further along due to production before the base game shipped. I think we won’t get a “rushed” expansion until expansion 3. Just my theory though.

it is taking them whole 4 months and than some to just add a gem tab

dont hold your breath, lol

Correct, and you should take it on the chin, suck it up, and move on. Sometimes you make a bad spending decision. It happens. That’s why we have the term “buyer’s remorse.”

You’re obviously entitled to do whatever you want. If you want to spend more money on Diablo IV, more power to you. It’s your money. I’m just saying you shouldn’t have to spend money on the game in order for it to be a good game. The right thing for Blizzard to do would be to fix the game before they even consider pumping out expansions. Or at the very least, go the route of CDPR and make the “fixes” a free update for the game, while the expansions add a bevy of new content to engage with.
