Overlay should be in the dungeon, but not in the world imho.
You may not realize you are doing it, but you are.
They probably went with what we have now because they wanted players to appreciate their surroundings and make checking the world map a separate action that could put their character in a dangerous situation if not done in a safe area. The same goes for dungeon map overlay. If you are lost, clear the area, then check your map. And if you do not trust yourself, you can put down map markers that lead you to places you have marked down (if a path is available).
I doubt D2-style overlay will be making a return.
The problem is, if you have a mini map, people navigate by looking at the mini map rather than the world, so it is self defeating. People see the plain jane mini map, not the beautiful world.
gotta let poe2 have SOMETHING
will be the only thing poe2 has over d4
I’m fine with this idea, but
- MiniMap Simulator 2k24 is a worse experience
- can’t zoom out the camera far enough to see I’m wasting my time running into a dead-end
Imagine that a company can design the game which fits their idea and vision. Every game has a design and restrictions. U are however free to choose and play the game as u like within those restrictions. Just like u not allowed to bot or using gps even though u prefer that way of playing.
Im not forcing my opinion anyone. Blizzard is the one in charge and they decided to go with what the majority wants and what they want. None is forcing u to play their game. Its your choice. Nothing wrong with that. Expecting the world to adapt to your liking is wrong however and not a healthy expectation.
Overlay is redundant since we got something way better with setting destination.
I am not looking at the map more than the game screen, nor is anyone else that is even marginally competent at playing the game.
There were no issues traversing the overworld or dungeons at any time by using way points or just going in the general direction of what the map showed 5 minutes earlier.
Not sure about if you missed a turn or something? That’s when you check the map.
Seems easy enough for me but I guess others are struggling and haven’t built up the necessary orienteering skills to play the game without constant map overlays.
To them I say; learn to play.
Personally, I’d like to focus on the action when I’m playing and not let the map overlay blocking my view. If I want to check on something on the map, I just hit TAB like in Diablo 3.
That said, I was talking to a Blizzard guy and I think they’ll probably add the overlay option in game.
I can live without the overlay, just takes a long time to stop finger from pressing TAB all the time
Lack of overlay is game breaking for me, anyone who says otherwise that NOT having an option to have it on is just wrong, thats all. “its not immerive” yeah because autopiloting to marker following red line is so immerisve. why not remove the whole us than? lets play vr diablo only.
But sure, have it your way. Lets get rid of players like me because u feel thats how you get your immersion. We also had meaningful choices because thats more immersive due to vocal minority of casual players wanting it in wow. That went well.
Instead i just stare at the tiny map in the corner instead of the game. Yeah thats so much better than staring at the game itself with a transparent map overlay… what a dumb statement lol
In one of their super cringy dev videos they explain why they didn’t want an overlay. And their reason is probably the dumbest reason imaginable.
It’s because they think while players are fighting they aren’t looking at the map, and while they’re looking at the map they aren’t fighting so no sense in making an overlay.
Obviously these devs have never played an ARPG before that wasn’t a mobile game.
