You can generalize people into categories all you want (that’s apparently 60% of your invaluable post) but it doesn’t affect my argument.
If the word ‘greed’ bothers you, find a substitute. That’s usually the problem with bad communication: users triggered by word connotations.
An initial scheme (here’s another problematic word: it doesn’t necessarily mean ‘shady’ or ‘conspiratorial’… “scheme” is a neutral term, and useful that way)… was altered into a different scheme. Behind both schemes are manipulative tactics known in marketing circles since at least the 1960s. Whoever comes up with MTX schemes is trained in those manipulative tactics. (Don’t let the word ‘manipulative’ trigger you either… it’s another literal description.)
What the complainers are doing is comparing the new scheme with the old one, and finding a net ‘greed’… which is frankly not hard to detect, if one does the grunt work of wading through the marketing PR bs. I couldn’t be bothered, but others did it for me, and then I skimmed a wowhead article.
It’s not hidden. It’s not really up for debate - but you’ve done a poor job of undermining it. All you’ve done is imply that it’s ‘fair’ - which btw… is a perfectly legitimate position. 
Equivalent to the others, who imply its ‘not fair’.
People can ignore these two emotional positions & just look at the claims of fact. Those stand up to scrutiny. You haven’t changed this at all.
