With changes to loot drops, game feels unrewarding

umm do u always take everything literally? explore was meant as in explore different things in ur builds and playstyle, not the environment. Guess i should have expected such a reponse in this forum

What is good and what is bad is already completely mapped out.

Why would i ever.. try to lower my chance of success by.. diverting away from the already known best thing?

I am adjusting some things tho, Like i am using The raging and retaliation on the challenging shout & iron skin instead of the defense alternative from the build.

But the items, aspect, paragon board etc won’t really change, especially this season where it goes unmodifieable, then you can’t test around aspects

yes cause the game removes more and more playerchoice and put you on rails. Is that what you want or what u just learned to accept, cause devs thought it would be cool to make everything bland and 1 dimensional. Ask yourself why so many ppl hate the s14 ptr changes.

Yeah, it all sounds very awful.

As i said in other threads.

Blizzard likes to take 1-3 steps forward one season (season 13 was good imo) then stomp all over it and take 20 steps backwards the next season.

Season 14 sounts utterly worthless

but groundwork for the most boring system was made in s13, they just improved upon. Ofcourse season 13 had a lot of good qol that it really needed, and new stuff is always exciting. But the garbage itemisation changed started in s13 not 14, 14 just made this situition much worse. And idc about nerfs at all, but i care about the fundamental item loop this game is turning into some weird crafting/slotmachine hybrid whatever u wanna call it. and it looks ugly and bad to me.

Anything is better than the Tempering and stuff we had in the early days when it bricked after limited taps

true that was a little worse. But the current temper is not much better, it feels completely out of place, with such shallow options, i ask myself why do we even have it.

Every season people say this about the next season. Let’s hope S14 is compounding 1.1 patches that were missed for the last 3 years and there’s some resemblance of balance to provide players choice without obliterating efficiency.

That is also true.

Hopefully it turns out good regardless

well first season for me that i say it tho. cause i experienced the groundwork to that slotmachine system already, and improving this seems like a few too many steps in the wrong direction. PTR didnt gave much hope aswell.

There was interesting stuff.

We had transformative aspects, but those were boring because people just looked at build guides instead of discovering them. Then the cries of “put them in the skill tree!” were answered.

Now aspects are all x damage and DR on Tuesdays, plus some utility ones like necrotic carapace.

We had items that could drop with any stat. We had conditional affixes to promote combat tactics. I didn’t like these, but they were varied. But the people cried “they’re too complicated and circumstantial! “ and now they don’t exist.

What the hell do people actually want when they say “make items interesting"!?

We had that and it got removed from existence.

Beyond that, this is an RPG. Gear = numbers go up.

Deal with it.

A loud vocal minority says this every season as well. It’s just the seasonal cycle.

It’s not like blizzard will balance the game. There will still be some broke meta that runs off of bugs that won’t get fixed till the following season.

Tbh I’m surprised there arnt 1000s of posts from sad barbs who are losing there one button invincible WW barb.

says who?

Anyway if that is the only thing you can come up with, is conditional dmg and aspects that were transformative but underused, then your imagination is surely lacking and you probably havent experienced other systems.
Btw these aspects were underused cause blizzard in their infinite wisdom made these compete with aspects that gave high Multipliers, and these transformative Aspects often did not. That was the reason why it failed.

I give you an example of an item that was not the most interesting, but it had its niche: Fists of fate the first iteration was something that had 4 or 5 lh proccs that did different things. No other item did that on that slot. Then after evaluating that it was too niche, and only mainly used for rogue(cause of the daze synergy) they changed it to an item with an overproportional high lh , other stats were relatively normal like critchance.
After some more iterations it changed to a item with even more potential lh chance, but to offset it they made it that the affix variation was very high, and getting a good one was hard.
All in all it was a niche item for some builds, but it had its place.
Now that item is completely trashed, and the combo it was promoting is gone.

Interesting affixes are affixes that are unique to certain items that promotes new playstyles, like a item that changes ur fw to a movement ability that gives MS and burn everything behind you.

Something like that or items that lets u scale completely different affixes, to make them meaningful for a build like barrier gen or certain res, suddenly do more then just res.

  • Tons of bad stuff drops.
  • Rarely does good stuff drop. When it does, then you are beholden to RNG gods of Transfiguration not replacing an Affix, giving you something worthless, or giving “Indestructible”.
  • Decent amount of “potentially good” items drop, but you need an obscene amount of materials and time to try to make them good.
  • More time is spent navigating preparing to play than actually playing the game.

sure, but having experienced it and actually played it, is something else then randomly doom and gloom w/o any shred of insight. So ptr and this season gives at least some ideas on how this will look like. So critics are a bit more grounded this time imo.

Barbs do not complain cause the build is not dead selig ww was working on the ptr, you just had to use EF instead of banished charm.

I don’t know why I decided to be a dick there, so sorry about that.

My point is at the end of the day useful will always trump interesting.

Fists of fate was used mainly because of the overall damage boost you could get. I suppose some usage could come from effects that proc off of cc but overall building around lucky hit isn’t really good.

There’s plenty of things in the game that are or were both interesting and useful, but many were removed. And time makes anything boring eventually.

nah it had other uses, it was used on the LS build for example, where the aspect didnt even worked with the LS Skill, but the lucky hit boost was so helpful that it still was a good item.

And yes nowadays lh is trash, which is kinda weird, when we have all these effects floating around that no1 is using.

That is a SINGLE build. Rarely do Metas go from broken to F-Tier. Moving something that was Pit Tier 150 and immortal down to 130 and squishy as the Meta means everything else went way down as well. It isn’t like the nerfs were strategic but rather hamfisted. Even if all other Builds went down the same amount, you are now looking at many Builds under 120 at its absolute peak and probably closer to 100-110.

Fist of Fate was almost entirely used for the Vulnerable application and massive Lucky Hit which in conjunction with a pre-nerfed Rage of Harrogath meant you could spam your Shouts and WoTB. The Damage Bonus is finnicky and most players would probably prefer a x60% - x90% flat bonus.

With the removal of the Unique Affixes, it is pretty bad.

the only problem i have with the new system… 850 power items are vendortrash (even the mats you get from them are pretty common and in the end also only serve to be made into forgotten souls)

the only use they have is during leveling (the moment you find a lvl 70 ancestral you trash the old one without a doubt, unless it’s a rare unique that’s hard to find but even that doesn’t take that long)

but i have my lootfilter set to only ancestrals and legendaries with an upgrade. so not much realy drops (enough to gear pretty much every character i want)
