Why no diablo 3 warlock?

Just wondering why wouldnt they add warlock to the greatest version of diablo (diablo 3)? I guess with them not added warlock they know how perfect diablo 3 is and it doesnt need any new gimmick class to make people play it.

I would have bought the warlock class for d3 since it would be something different and new. And i might have even played a warlock, I just dont think ill see myself playing a warlock in d4 when it officially comes live even if they nerf my paladin to lower then a rogue/sorc/necro in damage, I still dont even play a spiritborn. I have made 1 once only to realize its like the lame monk class form d3

no need to read further. lol.

Looks to me like D4 is the remake of D3, seeking to address the D2 oriented pushback of D3.

I personally felt D3 was too cartoony, but I was still curious to explore it a bit having played D2 a little.

Why some call it D3.5 I guess.

Early pitches of D4 seemed oriented that way to me.

Ironic as we get a bit too much of d3 in d4 this season imo - like too liberal in use of visual effects and clutter and moving away from the d2 feel (again).

Because they want people to buy the Diablo 4 expansion to play Warlock. Which is out in a couple of months. There is a risk people could get addicted to Diablo 3 and playing the Diablo 3 Warlock and not feel inclined to purchase the Diablo 4 expansion to play the Diablo 4 Warlock.

They want players to move on from Diablo 3 into Diablo 4. They are making an expansion for Diablo 4. Not Diablo 3. They believe players will have no problem logging out of Diablo 2 when the Diablo 4 expansion comes out.

Is my guess.

That’s it right there. There are a lot of differences between D2R, Immortal, and D4.

Not so much between D3 and D4.

They did mention a while back the player base for D2 was bigger than D3. Now that statement alone should be taken with a grain of salt, because at the time that statement may have been true, but not necessarily the whole truth.

However from a business standpoint it’s also an easy win so to speak. D:R I would say was successful when it launched. Now I wouldn’t say it was as successful as D4’s initial launch, but it was nothing to sneeze at either.

So they invested a little more time into it, to add a new class and other goodies to get people back into the game and spend even more money on the expansion. They’re milking the nostalgia crowd.

D3 hasn’t been in maintenance that long in comparison. As such most of that crowd has probably moved to D4, as the games aren’t exact. But the faster gameplay aspects are definitely more aligned.

Says who. What you’re implicitly asking is “…in Feb. 2026…”

Logistics. You probably already suspected that, based on their word choice. (If they do, it’s probably in ~ 7 months. :winking_face_with_tongue: )

Imagine if a year from now, they’re accused of copying GGG by working on staggered releases across multiple titles… and they embrace the meme. Weirdest timeline.

(PS. If not “Warlock”, an addon of comparable size… but I suspect ‘bigger’, in a sense. And don’t forget that D1 remaster.)

In Cederquist We Trust.

I’ll tell you how it is without beating around the bush about logistics, not old enough or other excuses. Microsoft is trying to revive the big D brand. Last thing they need is the installment disliked by most fans of the brand which was the downfall of the arpg genre back then. The second reason is pretty obvious, D2R is a gorgeous game with modern graphics, controls, gloomy/dark setting and support for all monitors/resolution/graphic cards. Adding content on top is worth it while with D3 they’d have to hire a design team to rework the greenish/cartoonish mold induced by the WoW team from the ground up to fit D1/D2/DI/D4.
Then, they’d need to invest real money for the big D game which was the least liked by the fan base.
That’s not gonna happen. The more likely outcome is when D2R/DI/D4 are milked to the ground at some point, they might make a Remake, not a Remaster of D3, to make it to what it should have been in the first place as prequel to D4.

It’s likely due to D3’s development status.

D2R, DI and D4 are still in active development. D3 is retired, meaning maintenance mode, low priority, etc.

I’m glad someone said it. It’s legacy.

THE CLASS-BEGGING knows no barriers

simply put it, diablo 4 is d3.5. Everything is taken from d3 and naming it differently but same mechanics. MEH!

No only from diablo 3… also from POE2.
Devs are obsessed with Diablo3ize and “Pathofexilize” Diablo 4 at all costs

In which universe???

LOl as far as we know there is only one universe, prove me wrong

Well my guess would be someone did the math on the cost of adding it to D3, what they thought they could sell it for it, etc. and it didn’t add up to make it worth it.

Keeping in mind a new class in D3 would need 4 class sets plus other items. Roughly 60-70 items along with all the artwork. Then you have the seasonal items they would have to make. Sanctified, ethereal, etc. All of those would need to be balanced so multiple patches as the season rotation happened. Yeah, just not going to happen.

Don’t forget controller support on PC. Even that is too much for Blizz to develop for D3.

Retroactively adding peripheral support is a lot more complicated than people assume.

Amongst D2R, D3, D4, POE, POE2…..none of them have all 3 of point/wasd/controller supported on all platforms. In some cases support is in progress, such as instantaneous switching in POE2 or keyboard on consoles for D4. In other cases, like D2 getting WASD support, it was pulled for not working correctly.

D4 has proper controller support because it was built from the ground up that way (even though a few ground targeting abilities struggle). D2R is still restricted by a mouse-like interface that hinders it. D3 console is practically a different game than D3 PC.
