Why Diablo 4 such bad reviews on Metacritic? Review of 2.2

Why only rating of 2.2 for Diablo 4 on Metacritic?

Crying kids boicoted metacritic only because Blizzard nerfed broken builds.

Shocking, isnt it?

Because it’s a bad game.

Review bombing, especially over the recent patch.

Diablo 4 was review bombed by trolls and by those who thought they were getting World of Diablo rather than Diablo 4. Oh and the mindless sheep that follow the rage farming streamers.

The nerf patch did contribute but in reality this mentality of here is our broken game we launched now beta test it for a year before we get it right is getting old.

A review bomb is a situation where people who have never used a product organize into a concerted effort to lower its average review rating for a reason outside the product’s quality.

That isn’t what happened to D4.

People reviewed D4 at about 5.5 initially, and once 1.1 dropped, they reviewed it down to its current state.

D4 earned its current rating from individuals who actually play the game.

This is a made up term by companies in an attempt to sabotage critical reviews of a product.

D4 was sitting at 5.0/10 since its launch. Many people patiently waited with the hope that the first major patch & season would fix major issues. If anything, the patch made the game worse by destroying the Eternal Realm & progress made there, and the season is lackluster at best.

This is a “live service” game. People are giving “live reviews”.

The current score reflects how abysmal the state of the game currently is. There is no conspiracy or armies of bots - it is just good ole’ fashioned people that are dissatisfied with one of the most highly anticipated titles of the decade.

If you haven’t already, I suggest reading this article detailing the months before the impending release date of this game. https://www.washingtonpost.com/video-games/2022/12/08/diablo-iv-release-date-crunch/

Because metacritic user scores are worthless and I honestly still don’t know why anyone ever looks at them.

It’s a platform where anyone can sign up for a free account and leave a review without even needing to prove they own a product. It’s also a platform that’s had consistent problems with review bombing for years and still does.

Patch 1.1.0 was bad and Blizzard is rightfully getting a lot of criticism for it. S1 is pretty underwhelming and Blizzard is definitely hearing about it.

But for the love of all that is good can we stop pretending that Metacritic user scores mean anything? The only time they’re marginally potentially useful is for niche games nobody has ever heard of, where the only people who will take the time to review it as a user are people who played it.

No, it’s 100% a thing that happens. Frequently. Metacritic regularly has to go delete extensive reviews that were left by actual bots that they can track down and confirm were bots.

Can you prove even one occurrence of this event?

So are you agreeing that Diablo 4 is bad?

Nope and anyone who isn’t a giant toddler can objectively say its not.

Its def not perfect though.

It isn’t that hard to google.

There are articles on Digital Trends and Noobfeed, revolving around Death Stranding and Metacritic bot review purges.
