Currently game is only done to lvl 50. Everything after that needs to be polished or revamped completely. Just give them 2-3 years
Doesn’t count, doesn’t matter. Unfinished product at best.
All res, +1 all skills and faster cast rate is big. Depending on the class, you need lots of cast speed to achieve maximum spell casting speed. You will go so fast it’s truly feel good. The item is great because you can’t get those mods combination on a regular rare armor. Plus it’s pretty low lvl requirement and low stats requirement.
Everything is linear/generic, and there is a serious lack of defensive affixes
What do I mean by linear/generic ?, well, consider these 2 examples:
- CDs reduced by 9%
With:
- Defensive skill CDs reduced by 2-4 sec
- Ultimate skill CDs reduced by 6-12 sec
- Barrier and Fortify durations increased by 1-3 sec
Immediately different impact, right ?
Same with the other things like Cost reduction:
- Cost reduction 8%
could be
- Core/Mastery skill cost reduced by 4-10
- Core/Mastery skills cost 5-10 more but deal 8-20% more damage
- While healthy Core/Mastery skills cost HP instead
What else ?, ah yes the
10% more damage against distant could be
- 15-50% damage increased against archers/casters/flyers
- Critical hits from close/distant/core/masteries also penetrate target’s armor (or resistances) by 10-25%
Then there’s balancing as well, right now Vuln > Crit > Everything else… Need to bring down/up things to be more accessible for everyone-ish kinda, simple examples:
- Assign a stat that increases chance to proc Overpower for Sorc/Druid/Necro… Why increase only armor and nothing else ?
- Need more LHs than “execute non-elite”, not sure which yet but come on man, need bring LH on par as a viable mechanic with other options (not just for Sorc via Enchantments but for others as well)… Say for ex. one LH could be to proc a random core skill from any class that has the same damage type you have (Sorc could proc Storm strike or Druid could proc Charged bolts for ex.)
And lastly but not the least there’s a SEVERE LACK of defensive affixes… People in WT4 complain about stunlocks (obviously) but don’t want to admit they don’t have the realistic/right expectations and base them on existing exploits in Barb/Druid classes (super high uptime in unstoppable that should be nowhere near at the rate it is) tbh
Nerf unstoppable on abilities and talents, add some of that on affixes, need more defensive options for everyone not just Druid and Barb tbh, here are some examples that might work:
** Boots should be able to roll
- Evade grants unstoppable for 0.25-1 sec
- Root & Slow durations reduced by 0.5-1.5 sec
- Stun & Slow durations reduced by 0.25-0.75 sec
- Negative overtime effects and damage dissipate over 3.5-1.5 sec
** Pants should be able to roll
- Unstoppable duration increased by 0.25-1 sec
- Fortify & Barrier duration increased by 0.5-2 sec
- Cannot be slowed while healthy/injured
- Evade can now move through obstacles
** Amulets could roll some of these:
- Defensive skills have CDs reduced by 2-4 sec
- Cannot be slowed while under effect of a Fortify/Barrier
- Targets affected by Vulnerable or Overpower have their Stun/Freeze durations reduced by [15-60]%
- Targets affected by Vulnerable or Overpower have their Overtime damage and Slow reduced by [20-80%]
- Cannot suffer Vulnerable
Happy now ?, cause I am
TLDR version:
eason why items are boring is 3 - fold in general:
- Every gain/bonus is GENERIC (i.e. affects everything at once) and there aren’t “partial” or even targeted bonuses (except + to a certain Skill)
- The game is not “diverse” enough in impact on mobs - if you clear you clear everything, if you struggle you struggle vs everything… There are only elites & non-elites as a mob “type”, could have non/armored and non/flyer as well for ex. so there’s even more interesting options to “explore/exploit” somewhere there
3 - The severe lack of defensive affixes on gear (other than armor, resistances, and small amounts of CC reduction in %) makes people take 1 or 2 defensive affixes that roll in a “mandatory” way and then gamble everything on extreme stacking on offense, which again - IS NOT BALANCED at this moment, i.e. there are 4 options for each class out of which only 1-2 are viable for most of the time
Verdict ?
Balancing patch can fix/save some of it (say balance between Vuln, Crit, Overpower for each class ), but need further depth/adjustments to make it more interesting/viable for everyone
first time buying blizz games?
Items are bad because a bunch of underpaid Blizzard employees were probably overworked and had no passion designing them. That’s the only reasonable explanation I can think of.
They are waiting to slowly add more is my guess and make sure they are not OP.
I’m finding a lot of very interesting legendary items who change skills and sinergies.
*Single target skills now targetting multiples targets
*Skills X now is also of this type so it gets all the relatives bonus
*Single shot skills now is multishot
*New ways to create corpses and blood orbs
All these stuff change the gameplay, not just the littles numbers.
Am I playing a different game?
This is my main complaint as well. I can overlook all the other stuff if there is fun loot to hunt whilst we wait for updates. There is not. Most of my posts here have been about this very thing but you detailed it better. Not a single Diablo player helped make this game apparently to tell them:
- PUT DIABLO IN A DIABLO GAME
- Loot is FUN in Diablo
I left console gaming when I was young for a reason. This is all the worst of the console stuff and why I left. Vicarious Vision games Console devs designing D4 gave us this I guess.
It’s really “Vicarious Visions merged into Activision/Blizzard Albany’s Lilith console game.”
yeah I don’t want to throw shade on any of the devs but the gear does feel a little like a wall of stat noise. Maybe more interesting gear will arrive later? I definitely groan every time I notice my inventory is full, that feeling of knowing it’s all scrap but having to sift through it just in case. Not very rewarding feeling
The people datamining for the cloud level have found over 200 files with old D2 legendary tags on them…
Some could be sets.
Some could be legendaries.
We know Runewords are coming back (they talked about D4 having an updated version of them in the future)
Ah thats cool! I’m definitely at the point of being done with D4 for now but if they have big plans/changes coming, I’d be excited for checking back in a year or two.
There is literally a cutscene at the end of the credits that shows a demon, that looks like the Triune statue of Diablo in the way of 3 quest, rising out of lava.
Also they announced Diablo would be in the game later in the story and not at launch… like years ago in their old quarterly update.
TBH I was recently playing old D2 before LOD expansion (its the only disk I could find) and it has worse itemization than D4. LOD fixed D2 Items. They were terrible for almost 2 years.
The files also showed a level tag next to Shaco and Doombringer… it says 84…
So for those items to start dropping sounds like it will be level 84 minimum.
Which most people wont even get too
But this makes sense because Shaco and Tyreals might dropped for the first time for level 84 ladder characters on D2.
This is a good point, D2 itemization before LOD was pretty rough. I know it’s not the same team or anything, but I think with enough feedback and work they can make loot feel more exciting
When you start with the premise that you will use the exact same classes with the exact same skills, what more could anyone expect? Low effort = low results simple as that.
Imagine if they would have made this game with 5 brand new classes with brand new surprising/interesting skills that push the genre forward. Then gear could be interesting as you could change it in ways we have not ever seen before.
Then again that would take creative effort/skill something Blizzard has not had in over a decade.
Even after LOD… everyone kind of just ran the same thing in D2… and then either Grinded or did PVP… not much else.
Then redid ladder whenever it started again
Yeah Diablo 2 is definitely a dated game (even if I still love it). I don’t think it should be used as the gold standard. But I still think there are valid points in this thread. And for what its worth, even in 2023, Diablo 2R keeps you coming back for loot in a way that Diablo 4 doesn’t pull off. I’m probably biased because I grew up with D2, but hey, it has retained a following for 23 years so it did something right.
POE was the same at launch. It took 2 years for the endgame Grand maps and Act 4 with all the good itemization to come out.
That is just how live service games work TBH.
D3 also had nothing at launch, it was basically not till Reaper of Souls almost 2 years later as well.
Where D4 is different, is that there are already Set Items, Runewords, and Legendaries found in files that aren’t in game yet. So they are already ready to get this going.
They even said Expansion 1 was nearly half way done if i recall correctly.
Seasons will most likely bring all this in.
Just a hunch but I think they’ll unlock those other uniques in the loot table on S1.
