What's the point of Aspects on Items?

TL, DR: Aspects feel like something that is slotted on a random item with nothing tied to it, like a gem. Just give us 8 Aspects slots to enhance our character and remove aspects from items.

To start off, I completely agree with EVERYTHING here: No endgame because of itemization

That being said, what’s the point of having aspects on items? Itemization feels wrong. Items only have 4 affixes that are tied to the item type, I get it, similar to other rares on other games. And giving them an aspect that doesn’t have to do ANYTHING with item type or feel makes them legendary? Just give us 8 aspect slots that we can interchange and that should do it, since aspects usually empower or change some skill or functionality of a specific class.

Items should be able to have more than ONE special affix, for example:
A unique/legendary armor should be able to have X protective unique affixes TIED TO ARMORS that only armors can have and cannot be extracted, such as damage reduction/resistances in a unique way, maybe a higher roll than normal on normal affixes as well. Remember Shaftstop in D2? THAT felt unique.

Same should apply for rings (+skills, resource traits, etc), weapons (dmg related unique affixes), and so on. Aspects are a dull and boring part of the game, and legendaries are way uninteresting and unappealing.

I don’t want to MAKE my own best gear, I want to EARN and FIND it. The joy of getting a random drop SURPASSES BY FAR the joy of just achieving it through endless grinding and getting there step by step. I want to feel the joy of opening a booster pack when killing mobs, not just buying slowly my deck of cards (TCG analogy). Killing Mephisto or Pindleskin, killing the Countess, destroying Mephisto’s soulstone on the Hellforge, those were pivotal moments when you were expecting a HUGE drop that could change your game. Once you got the item you were looking for, you ended up staring at it for minutes, with the joy of “I finally found my holy grail”. That is over now, completely over.

Just my 2 cents, this looks like diablo but feels like wow all over again…

There are too many useless affixes. Resistances on items should be completely removed until they can be fixed (season 2 suppsedly) and lastly item power should increase based on your level. Level 100 should be more likely to find ip 800+

You are right we dont need them on items

But they put them there probably cos the boring items get even more boring without them

Although there are ample affixes only like 6-7 of them are usefull that is the problem

Maybe it’s so you’ll have to spend like 5x as much trying to roll an already untradable item. Keeps you grinding for that gold. I’m never happy after finding a 3/4 with an aspect attached to it. Cost me like 50M just to get a crit roll on my wand, and it’s the minimum roll, 7M for another chance. It was like 1.5M but I decided to settle/imprint.

I like the aspects, but they make upgrading gear so frickin tedious since you have to both get a new item and the proper aspect.

Needing to find a random drop with no way to work towards what you want other than to keep killing stuff is far more of a grind than being able to cobble together an aspect, a rare, and the right affix reroll.

The booster pack analogy doesn’t work in a game like this, because they would need thousands of rare/mythic cards and most packs would have to come with no rare.

If you could just slot in your aspects separately and keep them forever, that wouldn’t help the loot chase; it would make even fewer things for you to hunt.

They will add more uniques and more aspects and it will be that much more fun to hunt for the ones you want.

They should have kept the aspects locked to dungeons, rare items, unique items with aspects that can’t get from dungeons and make aspects work with most builds/skills which will allow more choices.
The whole design currently is flawed, I don’t see it getting any better without a major rework

You can override imprints with another new imprint.

You can’t extract an imprint after imprinting.

i know, thus you need to constantly find mandatory imprints again and again.

Do I need to look into this?

Am I wasting my time with resistances?

You’re kinda on the same page as me. I mean, I overreacted with the booster analogy, but you got my point. Make both, keep the grinding for aspects and enhancing BUT also add the grinding for uniques and make them FEEL unique!

Also, Slotting aspects away from items is a MUST!

You havent heard? It was in their dev chat a while back they acknowledged they will fix it by season 2.

Ok, I wasn’t aware, I’ve been dodging the ongoing Dev roasting sessions on the forums.

Appreciate the heads up though, I’ll look more into it.

That sure would be a huge buff to uniques

Putting a resistance on your chest is sub-optimal.
Resistance “not working” is just group think and the failure of education teaching children math.
If you’re on world tier 4, armor is significantly more valuable than resistance, but resistance still reduces the damage you take from spells.

The amount it reduces is close enough to 0 to call it not working and be technically correct

Reduce Aspect roll to be below the lowest and then buff up the low roll on actual gear so it doesn’t go as drastic as it could

Some examples:

  • Basic skill empowers your Core skill by was it 5-10% ? and Aspect being 5% ?, make that roll between 8 and 12 and keep Aspect on 5%
  • While having a barrier up deal [15-30]% more damage, make Aspect be 10% and the range on gear be 20-30%

& other like those similar

We don’t need as high of a discrepancy between lowest and highest roll, but also nerf Aspect or keep it to where it is but not equal to the lowest range on roll

I do not wanna say that is a perfect solution, but i do not dislike that.

Yes, resistances are useless compared to every other stat, and should be 100% ignored on items and in paragon.

The only place to even slightly consider them is trying to get rings with different resists, and even then it doesn’t make much difference
