What part of the story bothered you the most?

What I liked about the story, was also what I disliked.

Inarius’s tale was pretty predictable, but I loved his character. So, I wish they had done something surprising with him at the end.

And he was really pretty to look at.

The fact that there was no heaven involved irked me so much. Blizzard’s take on heaven is sooooooooooooooooooooo cool. Inarius still instilled hope in me despite being selfish. The ending obviously was insanely giga trash but the lack of heaven and frankly the lack of Diablo sucked. Great characters though. Really solid characters.
Where is Tyrael? The story is insanely unbalanced. It is 99% hell, with that 1% being Inarius. Dude we got Tyrael in D3… a fallen angel! That was EPIC!

Dude did you hear we already apparently have 2 expansions mentioned by Blizzard?

Realllllyyyyyy? I did not hear any of that, considering they have literally not said a word about season 1 (and considering how bad the game is after level 50…) I didn’t think I’d hear that. We probably need to wait for another Reaper of Souls moment where cap can be achieved in 1-4 hours and we can play the content we want and get strong quickly while having our time respected.

That a poor girl felt bringing her mother back from the dead with necromancy was a good idea when she doesn’t understand a thing in the necromancy book. I mean what is this Full Metal Alchemist?

Yes the game was already completed, they just cut it into other expansions so they can make more money out of it. They even have Season 2 in the works already.

This, totally pointless

Rathma being ganked with no followup was a sore point for me as a necromancer :joy:.

Duriel being treated as a Rando demon with no build up.

Lilith initially being introduced as a grey area bad guy but then morphing into a cookoe cutter big bad. Seeing her grieve Rathma’s death made me feel like she was going to be a layered character. Then they just comlletely ignored that plot point.

Inarius being a total Punk and just killed in like 5 minutes or less by someone that just took a spear to her gut ??

The total lack of backstory for Lilith and Inarius?? Shes the Mother of Sanctuary and hes the Father but why and how ?? Could have had more dialogue with her and Inarius to explain that a bit ?

The fight with her was Pathetic really – dodge dodge attack KIlled - Story over at lvl 50 WOW …

Eh. The whole story is pretty flawed. Inconsistencies, bizzare endings to character arcs etc.

HOWEVER, coming from somebody who doesn’t think D4 is a good game, the story PRESENTATION is very good, and in a game like Diablo, I find that to be far more important than a well-crafted story. I did care about some of the characters, I did like Lilith for the most part and really the only characters that felt off to me where MY character and the Andariel Lady who ends up being a witch.

As far as a story for an isometric ARPG, I think its a big win and one of the few parts of the game that feels like there’s passion behind it.

That backstory is in Diablo 3 iirc. The game kind of presupposes that you’re familiar with the whole eternal war thing and all the background knowledge you get from D3 and Reaper of Souls.

Liliths Motive is just weak… trying to stop the reforming of the Prime Evils ya ok but with some crazy fanatic Humans some low Demons and 2 Lesser Evils mhm ok

The whole Desert Act to try and protect the woman to not become the vessel of Andariel just to see a summoned Andariel anyway without the vessel Elias tried so hard to get …

at the end a 15yo Girl running away with the Soulstone of Mephisto a Prime Evil and everyone seems to be fine with it i mean hey what could go wrong letting the girl play around with Mephisto

there is so much more literally after act 2 the “story” goes to s***

Rathma’s prophecy was accurate.

First paragraph is about Inarius’s crusade in Caldeum and Lilith establishing her kingdom.

Second paragraph is just talking more about Lilith’s atrocities in Caldeum and then about the invasion of Hell by Inarius’s forces.

Third paragraph is about Neyrelle putting Mephisto into the soulstone and bringing him into Sanctuary.

Oh and Lilith will respawn like any other demon, of course she’ll be back, just not in this game. It’d take roughly 50 years of in-game time passing based off how it’s being handled, if the devs decide to use her again asap. She’s kind of not super interesting without Inarius though, and his respawn should result in him losing his personality and memories.

Most of the lore behind it is not really in this game and only briefly touched upon in D3. Go read the wiki pretty much, it’s too long and complicated to detail in forum posts.

That might be the case but she did know that Inarius’ interpretation and Elias’ interpretation of the prophecy were wrong and did use that to her advantage I think.

Being forced to choose mephisto and not even given the option to choose to side with Lilith.

This could’ve been a great story moment where you choose a side in this conflict and the game texts accordingly

Inarius is a renegade angel. He’s been imprisoned by Mephisto in Hell for the last 3000 years and his appearance in Sanctuary is unexplained.

He established the Church of the Light forever ago and at one point ruled Sanctuary alongside Lilith as godkings.

The whole pact to not interfere in Sanctuary was decided at the same time he was imprisoned(as a peace offering to Hell).

The little girl, I honestly didn’t even remember her name. It was basically Leah all over again, zero originality. They are trying really hard to put out a strong female character which is to be lauded but this isn’t the way to do it, especially not in the gritty, gothic setting of the Diablo universe. And also her plot twist at the end came out of left field and made me go “wut?” It seemed obvious to me that they were going for a parallel with Arya’s famous getting on the boat to Bravos moment in GoT but it fell flat on it’s face because there was no character development or proper set up for it. I hope they don’t just end up using her a plot device to get us to the next zone (like what they did with Anduin in SL) which is clearly going to be some kind of island nation or whatever as hinted by all the “drowned” mobs everywhere and the statues of that unnamed sea goddess.

P.S. Was it just me or did the voice actor for Donan always sound like he was having a laughing fit whenever he was supposed to be crying? It was really jarring to listen to, lol.

Neyrelle taking the burden of the soulstone on herself and running away at the end. That pissed me off so much. You just know the creatively bankrupt Blizzard is setting her up to fail and become corrupted like Aidan or Leah.
