What Is The Modern Defense Of The Uninformed Gamer?

Considering the state of Diablo IV, something different from what is currently happening is needed. Maybe they should try. It’s not like it would hurt worse than what they are doing to themselves.

According to recent data (Sept financial report), they’ve garnered $150m from mtx alone this year. And that doesn’t include the last 3 months.

So yeah, doubt they care. As long as consumers are buying, the state of D4 is perfectly fine to them. Customers speak with their wallets - and they are saying “all is well”. Until that changes, there won’t be any paradigm shifts, regardless of what you or I say.

True. I just hope that the current feelings towards AAA developers grows, and that the devs start to feel the outcomes. Maybe then they will start to make some good changes for once. I do think mass customer sentiment is starting to shift away from the mediocreness or outright player-hostileness of current triple AAA games and devs.

I’ve been playing since before season 0 and that’s pretty much what they have done. a lot of things people despise about this game is changes made in response to the community. To be fair i see a large amount of the same criticism being aimed at poe 2. ggg seem to be not acting as much, though. Probably for the best. d4 was better before many of the changes.

FOMO pre-purchases. Games are by and large pre-purchased by the gaming community for perks whereby you have already spent the money before you’ve seen 1 minute of gameplay by an unbiased player.

when things don’t add up as shown in the tooltips, we raise questions.

I played then as well, and have followed the releases since. They have not been listening. They have treated the symptoms of things, without looking down into the core issues.

And GGG is crazy quick at acting on community feedback. They already have had 2 large patches since the launch of early access to address most of the problems people have had. I am sure that after the holidays they will have more as well. I haven’t followed Path that long, but looking at them with their current game, they are miles above Blizzard’s devs in working with the community and deciphering the issues that people bring up.

i disagree. ggg has been reluctant to make many changes. especially the most commonly requested ones on reddit and the poe forums. slight tweaks. d4 is where we are at because of the community. we want tons of loot. leveling is way too slow. this game has been damaged trying to be exactly what the community wants. leveling and loot are now trivial.

The issue was never that levelling was too slow. It was that levelling/player progression was absolutely terrible, as well as the lack of variety in content. Instead of actually making the game interesting to play (solving the problem), the devs opted to speed progression up, allowing people to rush to the end (treating the symptom), hoping people won’t notice the lack of variety within the content. The community stating its issues were fine. How the devs interpreted those issues is the problem.

How would we know the game would be the way it was… without playing it, you can see as much gameplay as you want, without getting your hands on something you’ll only ever have an outsider’s perspective.

Part of the problem was that people expected a decent end game.

It didnt need to be perpetual but it didnt really have one that compared to d2 or d3. So really didnt appeal to either group of players.

For a lot of diablo players outside of the seasonal journey it was about the end game be it leaderboards, paragon grinding, or loot grinding(which is what it seems to be now).

Not to mention the game has done a 180 since launch. Are people supposed to wait for year 5 reviews before they buy a game that will be dead by then?

As a big Diablo fan who played ungodly amounts of Diablo 2 and 3 I can say without a shadow of a doubt that the initial launch of D4 was horrendous. That first eternal playthrough was so rough, the only thing that kept me going was the story. There was no way to tell how much of the QoL had been stripped and bad decisions had been added to the game prior to the launch.

That said the state of the game now is far better and even quite enjoyable. They have things to address still like making endgame gearing more reasonable (I’m talking good 2-4 GAs without dupes) but overall it’s very fun. They still have a ways to go to get near the glory days of D3 (the last 5ish seasons), but it’s moving in the right direction.

I bought D4 on steam at a sale and began to play in S4. Loving to bits S4 and S5, I preordered the DLC and played all S5 until the last day.

Then S6 arrived. Not only that I was disappointed with the changes (a lot of grinding, ancestral and mythics drastic lowered drop rates, lack of resplendent sparks for reputation grind for alts), but the game crashed on me randomly every few minutes. I payed 90E for a game which was unplayable and no chance for a refund.

Now I am trying to complete the season journey and the crashes are fewer. But they still exist. I don’t know how long I will be able to play it until D4 will begin to crash every few minutes again.

When you pay that money and you can’t play the game for two months and you see that the devs seem that they don’t know how to fix the crashes, you have more than a chance to feel scammed and angry.

Unlike others, I love the core game. I also make my own builds, my favorite being any variation of hydra sorceress. I feel they are so close to release a great game and stop immediately before doing so because of some odd decisions (like not giving a spark for grinding an alt, discouraging people to making one this season… why? can’t understand)

I found your thoughts intelligent and well laid out and I respect that so since you requested genuine information, I’ll bite.

I don’t have much to say here. When I bought D4, I had watched a lot of content prior to my purchase and I enjoyed the game in preseason up to a point. I thought there was LOT going on with the game even when people were upset that from their perspective, it was released too early, etc. I was not upset with the game at release.

I think I kind of agree. I was surprised at the hate that was there SO fast.

My problem with the game is what has unfolded SINCE release. The decision making has been MIND BOGGLING to me. I feel like for every 1 good decision, there are going to be 5 bad ones. Just take classes for example and the skill trees. Why does 1/2 of the skill tree for each class have to be near useless each season? I had a lot of goodwill at the beginning and it has mostly all been lost for MANY decisions.

Yeah, I had some things to express but I realize I am not QUITE your target audience. I never felt deceived. I agree with you about this, I always look things up to know what I am getting into. It’s the relationship with this gaming company AFTER my choice that is upsetting to me.

*edit: Just to be clear: MILDLY UPSETTING to me. I don’t have a ton of hate, etc. I just need them to take their own game seriously so I can go back to taking it seriously.

imagine listening to reddit on gaming desires

It is like super simple answer, curious you can´t see it.

Lots of us also bought it at first day. People who want to race even had too.
There was no info by than except free testing weekends where major flaws can´t be recognised.

I agree that anyone who bought it later or bought VoH should not say things like that.

When has MetaCritic been a go-to for anyone?

You are aware that the game that was released is not what this game is today, correct?

In fact had you been here from the start you would know they have changed directions quite drastically. So yes people could have been informed and had the game changed to something else during its first 4 seasons. And that is fine as you understand you are getting a live service game. Does not mean they need to be happy about it.

He’s just a shill. Everyone knows this game is nothing like it was on launch. Headless game with zero direction. Thought they found it with S5, then destroyed that progress with S6 and the SB. Tune in S7 to see what misguided direction the game takes next. The game is different EVERY season, makes the OPs argument comical at best
