WASD needs a fix

But you’ve already seen the many valid points for WASD already…

Sure it can reduce or prevent RSI issues, which is great. But it’s also perhaps the most common movement scheme in PC gaming, being included in many isometric games already. Additionally more options in a settings menu is a good thing, everyone should have the option of how they want to play. Plus it won’t cause any balance issues, similar to how controller and mouse compete in many competitive games (even better, D4 isn’t a competitive game to begin with). This is because proficiency with any movement scheme is based on player skill, any adept player can outshine others on alternate schemes.

I had to check in about the WASD news, as this is a great addition to D4, and ARPGs at large. Plenty have likely been using it already with legit keyboard binding software or keyboards like Wooting, but to have it natively supported is certainly most ideal. It’s clear you’re still salty and ignorant on this subject so I’m going to leave you blocked and not bother clicking “view hidden reply”, to avoid your name calling and extreme rudeness from last time WASD was being debated. Maybe now you’ll realize people play games how they want to play, not just how you want to play. Blizzard clearly made the right choice here. Take care.

That’s definitely an odd way for WASD to work right now and very likely something they’ll patch pretty quickly. With so many isometric games utilizing WASD, players will quickly notice the difference.

It’s also just great they added WASD now. All of us who suggested it were certainly in the right and Blizzard listened. Nearly all ARPGs moving forward will surely include WASD as at least an optional control scheme. Especially considering the tons of isometric games that use WASD on even just Steam. They have to adjust it some now, but this is a W for Diablo fans and ARPG fans alike.

They just need to add an option to set “always/automatically use hold position when using this skill” to every skill. So you can put it on or off. It should just be an option when you hover over skill similar to how you swap weapons used for barb skills.

Actually played for a bit even though I know the game is still terrible. WASD is absolutely overpowered. Maybe it comes from being a god at all of the Vampire Survivor clones and Hades, but this control scheme definitely throws off the game balance. They will need to turn the game into a bullet hell for there to be any sort of difficulty using WASD.

It’s overpowered in the same way that using a mouse to turn instead of a keyboard in wow is overpowered. I think you’re exaggerating a bit on it throwing off the game balance – this dynamic was already available if you used a controller.

I think your confusion is in how lunging strike works. It only activates when targeting an enemy or the ground near an enemy. So your scenario is exactly how it should work. The only modification you can do to it is turn off “mouse aim” and it will lunge if there is an enemy in range and you’re facing it.

Compare that with HOTA, if you press “hold position” hota will still slam down with nothing targeted.

Lunging strike has never been a “movement” ability, pressing lunging strike with “hold position” just has you lunging nothing, standing in place while swinging. with something in range you will lunge, even if you clicked near an enemy

another note,

this is false.

if you press lunging strike on the ground near enemies, you’ll walk over to it and it WILL lunge as soon as you get in range of one. there is a limit to the distance that it remembers the input, you can’t waddle very far and still lunge.

easy to confirm, you can lunging strike without ever mousing over an enemy or seeing the arrow pointer turn into a sword.

WASD controls in an ARPG is like using a Pregnancy Test to play DOOM.

Can it be done? Yes, yes it can (and has) been done. Should it be done? Only once for the lulz, because it’s impractical and dumb.

I am so glad I came in for this topic, I somehow missed that setting and was annoyed that I was dodging toward my mouse. Thanks for that!

fix is to remove it from the game it has no point to being in an arpg

Not going to happen. It is a part of the game now and will also be in POE2 when it launches. Deal with it.

Also, there is nothing to fix. Ive leveled to the 60s with no issues.

dont plan on playing POE2 didnt play POE 1

well ya wanted WASD now ya got it… enjoy

A controller isn’t the same. WASD lets you aim in a different direction than you are moving. It turns the game from an ARPG into a Vampire Survivors clone. The only way those games are difficult is when they turn into bullet hells or the mobs move at extreme speeds. Both of those changes make it to where M+KB or controller movement are vastly inferior.

WASD works perfectly fine I don’t know what you guys are crying about  also if you don’t want to use it, just go back to moving with the mouse and getting hand cramps.

My only complain is disabling mouse aim removes the cursor on the screen so you can no longer leave party, change weapon type on spells for barbarian, mouse over and see which buffs you have active etc…

Not a big deal, but I hope they can fix that somehow, just allow us to use the mouse without it being tied to aiming or moving.

Since patch 1.3.1 its weird to play with wasd. Did they change something? The character runs an longer way as before oO
