It literally says on them “expires at the end of the season.”
I care. They should be adding things to the game, not wasting time on all this temporary stuff. On top of that, are they not part of the season journey rewards? So they reward you then take it back?
Agreed, it is a long time, but if you take the average casual player, comes home from work, spends time with the wife/kids, has maybe 1-2 hours to play a video game during the week, possibly a little longer on the weekends, but typically with a family you’re doing other things. You don’t have a lot of time for experimentation for the beginning of the game into the very first season.
That was the main point I was making, 1 month was just not enough time for the average casual player of the game. Now with Season 1 being out, I feel they can get a better grasp of the game, they can make alts, experiment with builds, have fun, etc.
I have friends currently playing season 1 who have just barely hit 50. With “other games” coming out they’ve also spent time playing those too, and their motivation to play D4 has changed quite a bit. I doubt they’ll even get the seasonal journey halfway done.
You also have the issue of, “well it’s just going to be erased in another 3 months so why bother?” mentality too. I get that, for some it feels like a waste to even invest into a season when you just barely got your feet wet in the month before the first season. It’s a valid concern, but I feel this wouldn’t have been an issue at all if people were just allowed to play the Eternal Realm longer before the first season came out.
Again just talking about the average casual player, nothing more.
I mean honestly, if you are running high keys you can get the glyphs to 15 in no time and its not all too bad after that. Thats actually my end game right now because I have nothing else to do… level the remaining glyphs and keep hunting for the damn necro unique shield I have yet to see drop.
Having seasonal items only last for the season was not some big decision they JUST came to. That is the entire point of having a season. The items are for the season. Next season there will be something different.
if you are going to play seasons then it doesn’t matter in the slightest because you won’t be playing non-season much, and next season you have to start from scratch anyway.
Meanwhile PoE has done a full rebalance and fixed player-reported bugs and is bringing sanctum into the core game and plans to do the same with crucible.
More often than not, that’s how seasons work. It’s pretty rare that a season mechanic/ability carry’s over to non-seasonal servers, no big surprise, it’s always been that way in any ARPG
This is why tier sets are just better.
Where each tier set is available each season - and they can throw in what they did in d3 - rewards from seasonal journey complete one of the tier sets. It may not be the one you prefer so you just grind out the one you do prefer.
It’s truly play your way…and depending on where they drop from, they allow target farming, which the playerbase largely enjoys (versus not trying to get uber uniques that might as well not exist [what a dumb idea that was]).
The mechanics sometimes don’t, but since POE is the industry leader and model for seasonal ARPGs, the items you acquire usually do transfer to the standard server as legacy items that are no longer obtainable but can be traded (and often have high values as a result).
D3 had it’s model of abandoning the seasonal content completely, but hardly anyone plays D3.
