Here is a copy of my request to the assistance (seems that they send us here as in french )

I would like to report a bug that affected me this evening on Diablo 4.
Following a session with friends where we had a lot of fun and when everyone left, I did a little sorting and tidying in my chest. I opened a few caches in town and sorted all this small material. When leaving my game, still in town, the game tells me that I have reached the maximum number of characters in my pantheon. (And yes, I play in Hardcore and I accept its intrinsic laws.) I now see that my character is declared dead by the appearance of Belial.
I remain convinced that this enemy was not in my chest when I left my game, and that my character was alive and on his 2 legs when I left, still in town, in front of my chest overflowing with loot. I imagine that a bug affected my beloved Barbarian on whom I was starting to make good progress.

My barbarian was level 60 in the Whisper Tree and Torment2 area and I was able to make several moves in the area without leaving or teleporting, open caches, talk to 2 merchants. I left the game with 100% of my life but did not leave the game and I selected another character when I saw that this one was no longer in my character list.

I remain at your disposal for more information that could help you prevent this bug from affecting other people or if anyone has suffered the same.

It happened one more time.
This bug probably exists due to a combination of factors. Can you make it stop happening?

It seems there are two of us in this situation. Maybe more but it happened twice for me just before ending the season. It’s quite frustrating wasting time to fail right before the reward with not making any error and just dying for no reason. I often died due to my fault and never complain about it but when it’s caused by some kind of glitch, i’d like to be sure it’s not happening the next time.

I am very sure i was in town when it happened the 2 times. I would not complain if it was not.
