Uber uniques are in a weird spot right now

May be a little bit of nostalgia here, but I miss the excitement when I kill a random trash mob in D2 and get a shaco. I know they can drop in D4 from anywhere, but the drop rates are so astronomically small compared to doing boss runs. I’m kind of bored having to do these repetitive boss runs, and the most irritating part is that I have to be in a party to use my mats efficiently. Anyone feel this way?

Why not take D2’s idea to allow these uber unique to drop from anywhere in the open world at an increased chance? For example, I can get T87 unique like Griffon’s eye from farming D2’s Terror zone which can be anywhere. It’s such a missed opportunity by the devs to not take advantage of this open world they’ve designed, to only pigeon hole players to doing repetitive boss runs. Helltides & turning in whispers should provide an increased chance of obtaining uber uniques.

I’ve managed to get 3 drops plus 1 crafted all as a solo player this season. I have 3 sparks currently and can sacrifice one of my drops to make a 5th this season. Last season I ended with 2 crafted plus one drop.

Other players have a stash tab full of mythics and some still have none. The user experience seems to vary wildly. My own experience took me nearly a month in each of the last 2 seasons to get a single drop so I had to craft at least one early to solo farm the tormented boss ladder.

Overall it’s an experience I wish they would smooth out, but with the armor and resistance penalties in the new world tiers it feels like mythics will be more of a requirement and not a bonus item to have to clear content.

I agree. I got a 1GA Doombringer Drop during S4 with GA Life during Helltides. It was pretty exciting.

mythics can drop from anywhere in the world. tormented bosses just have an increased drop rate to give players a chance to obtain mythics quickly and efficiently. players will always utilize the most efficient ways to farm and therefor the tormented bosses are the most popular way to farm them. if you dont like running the bosses and would prefer to find your mythics from open world mobs, you can choose to do so.

I get that, but the current meta for grinding tormented boss for mythics feels kind of dry don’t you think? My suggestion is to balance the other methods of farming in the open world (helltides/whispers/events) to also be a viable option for farming mythics. Adding a little spice to the farming variety goes a long way to break the monotony.

Wait, you’re bored of the fact you have to farm bosses for items more efficiently, but you’re ok grinding bosses for items more efficiently in D2, and the fact a Shako has possibly slightly more of a chance to drop anywhere in that game comparatively? Alrighty then.

They did just that. Farm the helltides for one material, whispers for another, hordes/pit for stones, NM dungeon for glyph xp, and the boss ladder for other boss mats.

The irony is all of this is that any player don’t want to be forever to engage with all of this content to get the mats and drops that they want.

I’m fine with bosses being where the increased chance is cause it makes the most sense to me

I think they over did the whole target farming thing. They basically made it you need to do X to get Y. I don’t mind having areas for increased drop rates but it shouldn’t be essentially zero everywhere else.

That’s true we’re engaged in all the contents, but farming mats always feel like a chore to me somewhat. If we can get those purple beams to drop more often by just farming the open world, that feels more special than “oh I got a living steel from opening a chest” moment.

I agree. But hey in D2 you had to commit war crimes against Mephisto to get a guaranteed Shako. And what about Baal runs? Baal run 1… Baal run 30… Baal run 100. And what about farming uber keys?

My unpopular opinion is that Mythics have become so common now that they no longer excite me. I’ve come to expect them rather than look forward to them. As a solo player who doesn’t participate in ROTA, I often help people through the trade channel with tormented bosses. Because of this, I don’t feel the need to specifically farm for certain boss materials. Maybe I’m just playing too much.

I got like 16 uber drops but they are useless… 0 ga… regular 2ga items that I can actually use are much more rare to get…

You’re right, but I don’t have to farm mephisto for rest of the game, only during the beginning since T87 uniques don’t drop from Mephisto. I like having progressed past Andariel/Mephisto to farm other places like Chaos or Pit runs. It’s fun making a dedicated fire sorc just to farm the stony tomb.

Baal is a different story though. It was a real pain back then when it was the only viable option to lvl to 99. Glad the devs introduced terror zone to shake up the meta and make other grinding options viable.

Mythic should have the same drop chance from any mobs or boss. BUT target mythic from boss

Like ( really random number don’t take seriously) 5% chance from any mobs for all mythic but Duriel have 10% for shako, Andariel have 10% for her visage, tyraek ha e 10% from grigoire etc…

Couldn’t agree more, OP. I have played 4 seasons of D4 with 150-200 hours in every season, and I have yet to see a single mythic unique drop anywhere (except bosses). I have 3 real life friends that also play D4 and none of them have had one drop either.

Feels bad. Farming materials to farm bosses is just so monotonous.

Yes but those 3 drops came from bosses, correct? The OP is saying it’s a shame mythic uniques don’t drop more often in the open world.

I’m actually surprised this hasn’t been implemented yet. It was fun to get all the Ubers in season 2 and 5 (reworked). A lot of builds only require 1-3 of them, so able to target farm is such a great idea.

My take on Best ubers droprate

First of all all bosses being same is slighty off. Duriel and andariel should be best as they require items from other bosses.

Duriel and Andariel Torment- 5 chances of 2%
Other torment boss - 5 chances of 1.5%
World Boss - 1% or 1 in 100
Whisper Greater Helm Cache - 0.2% for mythical helm or 1 in 500 and other related whispers same like greater 1h weapon cache for doomy
Treasure Goblin - 0.05% for mythical item or 1 in 2000
Helltide Mystery Chest - 0.1% or 1 in 1000
Bloodmaiden - 0.025% or 1 in 5000
LV 100 Dungeon completion - 0.01% or 1 in 10000
Any non boss enemy in the game. Whatever the micro chance it is now times 2-5 as Ive only seen this happen once in 5 seasons.

This is just natural, no opinion. Everyone feels like this, but not everyone sees it as a problem.

Blizzard made the mistake to let mythics be target-farmable / create a realistic chance for these items, appearently not knowing that if you give players an inch they will take or demand a mile. And here we are with everyone having the mile.

I think the devs only put mythics on the boss run loot table to compensate for the unrealistic drop rates in the overworld. Suddenly a lot of critisism popped up that boss runs are boring and farming boss mats stinks and that games should be fun not work and so on. What a surprise, right?

This never stopped since. And the developers are too worried of losing players. They constantly cave in and mess up their own content, item system and game balance to make sure everyone is happy, which is just not how it works psychologically.
