Top 10 Gaming Back in my day.... đź‘´

Time for another installment of top 10 lists. IF you laugh and dust comes out then maybe you are as old as me!

This is how gaming worked back in my day…

1] Back in my day freemium meant you went to the neighbors kid house on the corner who had some mysterious new out of this world game Called Super Mario Bros 2. We dint even know his parents names. I cant even remember his last name!!! Hi Jeremy!!!

2] Back in my day games were not automatically configured by Steam. No you had to know DOS memory stuff like this one LoadHIGH C:\Games\Wingcommander.exe -FS -EM -SKIPV101.

3] Back in my day the legendary kid on the block wasnt online on tik tok or youtube with the most views. He was letting you pick his character in Street Fighter II arcade and then getting 2 perfects in a row with the most ppl watching in person while you walked away in total shame.

4] Back in my day you dint divine the chores evenly. No you had a challenge of gaming and best 3 out of 5 in COMBAT did all the chores! Then next week it was Millipede and then Defender and so on until you went through your entire ATARI lineup and started over. If the chore list was really long then you whipped out the ultimate challenge. Fastest time to beat Adventure!

5] Back in my day you dint look up cheat codes instantly on wikis. No you waited a weeki for your nintendo power to come for those juicy codes like up up down down left right left right B A select start.

6] Back in my day you dint have Google Fiber blazing saddles speeds. No you had a dial up modem that sounded like it was going to explode or call down aliens in their language every time you used it. You know that sound series Im talking about. WTF was that all about!?!?!?!

7] Back in my day I dint make top 10 lists. I was placing Top 10 in Delta Force Land Warrior kill to death ratio because I was good at gaming.

8] Back in my day you dint save your Gold Cartridge Zelda in the packaging. No you jammed it in your NES to make Romance of the Three Kingdoms II work because the spring broke and you were not going to get an NES for xmas a second time and you had China to unify as a custom general in Province 41! Cao Cao you gun die as I seize the Rulers Seal!

9] Back in my day you dint troll ppl on forums so much. No you trolled them in Stranglethorn by ganking them from on high as a Hunter with twink gear.

10] Back in my day you dint spend time outside in summer going to the pool your family paid for no you completed the Impossible Level Challenge in Nintendo Power on M.U.L.E. to get over 125,000 colony score while starting as a human. And yes I did it finally after 2 months by mapping out every possible starting scenario and where the high crystites were. Such a nerd! And then I went to the pool.

To circle this back to Diablo please tell me what you loved about Diablo back in the day.

My pick is Diablo 1 atmosphere / music. So spot on!

Thanks for your comments and your own back in my day stories from dis :older_man:

I think I was Province 26, and made a concubine general.

There was no concubine generals or rulers in Romance II. There were hidden general and generals with 0 loyalty even at 100 loyalty like the infamous Lu Bu and even brother generals like Guan Yu and Zhang Fei.

I had 100 loyalty on Lu Bu and he switched sides to a 10 gold out of 99 offer and then killed me in a charge attack. I was so furious I threw down the controller and broke it and had to buy another one. I was playing self imposed hardcore so that ended that game.

Lu Bu is top spot on a future worst gaming characters of all time. Maybe even past Neyrelle. 100 loyalty and you switch sides? At least demand the Red Hare or something!

Oh mine was. You simply make your custom sub-general that always has 100 loyalty female. Why do you think her loyalty never dips below 100?!? It’s because she’s a concubine! YOURS!

And yes - Lu Bu is programmed to betray you. Gotta snipe Guan Yu early, and make sure your custom general starts with 100 War and get a weapon to boost it over. Always challenge a rival general!

God damn it we are old brother.

Bards Tale on Windows 3.0 was the shiznit !!

give 2,000 men to Zhao Yun and supply them with lots of food. he could keep setting fires and maneuvering around until the defending forces are depleted, allowing conquer the province.

I’m 24, and even back in my day it was normal to just show up at a friend’s house to play co-op playstation without announcement or planning. Your back in the days don’t even seem that long ago. Also, we played Street Fighter 5, the Naruto/DBZ fighter games, etc. too co-op.

I think most people 22 and up had a kind of similar childhood in many ways. I think the times after 2014 roughly started changing rapidly each year. So it wasn’t really an evolution, it seemed more like an avalanche

I remember I did play some Diablo 3 secretly on playstation 3, but only very little and I quit after getting lost a few hours in

and the floppy swap…

Back in my day we didn’t know what Super Mario Bros was or even Nintendo.

Yar’s Revenge or Castle on my Atari 2600 was the leading edge of gaming. It was an amazing upgrade from Pong or Snake.

Damn, I feel old.

This was a major technical leap forward from having to write down the numbers from the tape deck, so you could to FF to where your save game was and press play and then quickly enter the load command in order to load it! OR put in the basic cartridge to load basic and then load your gave from that Sexy 5.25 that you cut a notch into so you could write to both sides! Also it was Load DOS on A: and then load game on B: for a while for me before I had anything fancy enough to have a hard drive on C:

If we travel as far in the future as we just did into the past i don’t think there will even be games or game companies as we know them. You will just thought prompt your AI to create the game you want to play on the fly and play in NR (Neural Reality) interfaced directly to your brain from the AI)

Those cassette decks were so finicky it was sometimes quicker just to re-type the program in line by line.

Nothing Gold can stay Pony Boy

Didn’t a similar post like this got deleted already this year? :zipper_mouth_face:

Back in my day, I went to my friend’s house, who was a Jehovah’s Witness, to play “Strip Poker” on his old Commadore 64.

But hey we were kids and blurry pixels and the fact that it forbidden fruit kinda added some spice to our childhoods.

This is quite literally, enough.

I get that you feel VERY important.

You won’t even respond to direct points half the time but need to continually do these lil lists and games and such.

Time to think things through a bit more, sorry.

I love my fellow D4 players but 100% don’t understand people trying to get self-validation in a game forum. Give it a rest.

Castle? Or Adventure? I played that for years. It was just “Atari”. There was no 5200 to make the older one 2600 yet with the silver and red packaging. Great times

I think it was Adventure, the one where you were a square dot and used a funky sword to kill 3 dragons. Then you had to move some items around iirc. This was the late 70’s. I have killed alot of brain cells between now and then.
