Did you ever red about a hero or seen one in a fantasy movie who finds a mythic weapon, looks at it and says: I cant use this. It has the wrong stats. No ofc not. 
No they usually come across a need for the very specific item and spend some time searching for information pertaining to that items specific location then they go and face the challenges at that specific location.
Once they have it they return to their previous mission that required the use of it.
But that is a movie or story and not a reoccurring event like seasons.
