FINALLY
someone with Carpal Tunnel that’s not bs’ing. Even I can tell, with no serious problems yet that utilzing WASD for movement and ability use on games where you don’t stop moving is rather stressful.
I’ve played pvp and high work rate mmorpg’s like Black Desert and Archeage WASD and it’s not fantastic for long periods but I recently got into more stress simply having a bit of an addiction to vampire survivors, luckily the game is so simple you can switch to gamepad so no issue.
Anyway, people using carpal tunnel or other injuries as an excuse is really poor effort as it takes much more comforts like seating position, arm support, desktop height, wrist/arm supports etc etc than just simply changing a control scheme and “that’s most of the work done, now people with disability can play”.
Nothing but a complete joke honestly…
As stated above, I have avoided Carpal Tunnel for years and I use WASD. However, it is about positioning of more than just the hands. Knuckles have to be parallel with wrist and elbow, fingers have to be parallel with knuckles (forming about a 90 degree angle) on the WASD side; wrist and elbow must rest on something on the mouse side. It can be a pain. Still, there was something I was not considering. I have other injuries. My feet and knees are bad; my back is worse. So, posture for me is crucial. This is a pain as well. Also, pretty much once an hour, I have to get up and walk around. This means that much of the repetitive motion is disrupted. All of the above stated, it does seem like people who actually have Carpal Tunnel do not benefit from WASD. So, that means it is more about gaming convenience than accessibility. This means that there should not be WASD.
Same! I have plantar fasciitis in both feet now, sciatica on the left side, back problems, random joint pains, carpal tunnel, some signs of arthritis showing up from time to time. Aging is the worst and I’m not even that old yet.
Ok, so this turned into the old gamers thread. I had plantar fasciitis in both feet for years after running and playing soccer much of my 30s. Did the boot, stretches, etc the physical therapist suggested for 2 years. Didn’t help. Then I got the steroid shot in the tendon, fixed the next day. Haven’t had it since. Not sure if you have done it or not, but if not, consider it. It really helped me.
Oh nice. Thanks I’ll look into it. It originally happened in my right foot right as I was buying a house about 4 years ago so I was really stressed and just didn’t have time to deal with it. And then the pandemic happened so I put a lot of health issues on the back burner since they didn’t seem pressing and actually for about two years the pain went away. But I started going on long walks the past six months or so and the pain started coming back and recently started on the left foot too.
Wow! It seems us old folk not only debunking but calling out those that use that despicable excuse for adding WASD to D4, shut some of the trolls up.
I held back for weeks letting it slip here. But not anymore. Im in constant severe pain all over my body from daily migraines, all the way down to aches in my feet and even toes. I suffer from nerve damage, to bone problems, muscle and joint aches every day. My back and neck are a nightmare to deal with.
Im considered primarily a PC gamer. And while i use WASD for most games, it has no place and no business being in D4, and was never in a pc diablo game before.
From now on, anyone who uses that horrific excuse to add WASD in D4 will be ridiculed, scrutinized, and reported for taking advantage of someone elses handicap to make a piss poor argument just to get their way. You all are despicable pigs. And your opinions are now no longer relevant.
ED: I also want to say i read all the other posts about their physical problems, and i sympathize with you all. My heart goes out to you all. My hopes for you all to be as pain free and comfy as possible and feel better every day. As someone who can relate, god only knows we all need a break.
WASD DOES NOT BELONG IN DIABLO! There is no accessibility advantage by adding it, only room for exploitation and laziness. Dont like it? Go play something else, since you obviously never played a Diablo game before.
Blockquote I’m curious does wrist strength help with carpal tunnel? I only ask because I never get any soreness ever.I wonder if it’s a side effect of my job which requires high wrist and hand strength among other things.
There isn’t even a need for a carpal tunnel or accessibility excuse.
People shouldn’t be surprised that WASD is a requested feature after controller support was requested in D3 for years. People are finally getting their requested native controller support which is good because it’ll bring more people to the game.
People saying that optional WASD will make WASD mandatory for KBM or will suddenly break the whole game and make it unbalanced are just fear mongering… and any validity to that objection goes out the window with cross-play and native controller support on PC. People like using different inputs to play the game, and there’s quite frankly nothing wrong with that.
WASD controls were banned back in 1936 after Franklin D. Roosevelt labeled it as ‘The God Controls’ which was responsible for kick-starting the great Depression in 1929. It was deemed to be “OP” to be allowed in the hands of mere mortals. Good riddance I say.
The point is that with WASD you can move while pointing your mouse in the OPPOSITE direction (or really wherever you like) instead of just the same place you are heading.
In a game like this where the fights are more intricate and there is lots to watch out for, it is STRICTLY SUPERIOR to mouse movement. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know what they are talking about.
The only real opposition to WASD movement is that since it is superior, it makes pvp less fair (although since anyone is free to use this control scheme, you are only hindering yourself by not using it…so it’s still fair)
Yeah the only point against WASD is that it’s so good/superior than just mouse or controller that the game design might have to be altered. The problem there is anyone not using WASD would kinda get screwed over.
The fact is every argument against adding WASD for movement is null and void since they have added controller support. Everything you can do with WASD you can do on controller already. It just comes down to people being more comfortable using WASD to move than picking up a controller just to play one game.
