The current Uniques (not the Uber version) actually fulfill their design intention according to Joe Shely:
I asked about why a lot of Uniques feel underpowered compared to Legendary counterparts, and they said that Uniques are not meant to be an “ultimate” level of gear necessarily above Legendaries paired with Aspects, they are supposed to slide in alongside certain builds to make them unique rather than be outright better than anything else. It is not the “you must get every unique to have every viable build option” system that we’ve seen in the past.

Some of them wouldn’t be quite so bad, if the stats on the item weren’t the worst garbage possible.

i guess i don’t understand this like then what is the point of uniques if most of them are vendor trash?
like why not make uniques tougher to get (maybe not .00000000000000000000000001% chance to drop like some) but that open up more playstyles and builds.

At the very least, uniques should have been given better item power scores to give them a slight advantage over the standard legendary gear. This is what I call a squandered opportunity given their rarity.

Do you have an idea how many I have vendored? They suck period!

POE does this as well. 99% of their 100 something uniques suck ask. You may need 1 for a build but most are 1 Chaos unless a chase item. They want you to make Yellows into the best with crafting. D4 lacks in the crafting dep atm. But POEs at launch getting the links were almost impossible.

The real reason why uniques feel like garbage is because, like everything else in this game, they were created by ChatGPT and never tested.

This is just one more example of the developers not having a basic understanding that player time is important and deserves respect.

Yea thats it and they did it from the Book Repository.
i play POE and i don’t even understand it there, I would rather have less uniques that are more rarer drops than hundreds of useless uniques.
in my made up game that is only in my mind, a unique item would make the player go “oh **** that item is amazing I now can go X or Y build since i have it”

POE isnt for most people. You see people going on about how their going to POE. They will last an hour and head back to D3.

POE uniques are mostly designed to complement specific builds or types of builds, and most are designed to have tradeoffs (i.e. you get a unique bonus, but also some downside or just less raw stats than you’d get with a rare).
Many are just outdated and/or the niche they’re intended to fill isn’t in meta at the moment due to skill balancing etc.
D2 had more general uniques that were just generally strong items (e.g., stormshield, shako), some for specific builds (e.g. griffon for lightning builds) and fewer build enabling/altering uniques (some of the runewords are build enabling, like infinity or enigma)
they clearly didn’t playtest any of them.
an item either has a purpose or it doesn’t almost all the uniques I’ve seen for sorc are pretty much as bad as some rando yellows with bad stats as far as I’m concerned.
They didn’t do their job.

Read the post, though, folks. Unique =/=higher rarity or even better gear. Just means its unique.
Or did I read it wrong?
soooo bad , so bad
i want my money back

Uniques are actually much more rare than legendaries. Need proof? Just count how many of each item type is in your possession. Past Diablo games have always had uniques stand well over their rare / yellow counterparts.
D4 has relegated uniques to nothing more than named legendaries with extra limitations, so yeah, I can see why they suck according to many D4 players.
The D4 DEV’s are trying to make a Diablo-game that’s “their way.” All they are doing is annoying everyone by repeating the initial mistakes of past Diablo versions.

That’s actually what they want to avoid, as Joe said (that I quoted).
Not always, in classic D2 rares were the top items in nearly every slot. There were only a few uniques people used (twitch, tarn, iceblink, chances, etc.) The unique-centric gameplay really started with D2:LOD. Before that you were mostly farming high quality rares in CS/A4.
I have had every single sorc unique drop at least 10 times, except the chest piece which has only been 3-4 times. Chest piece is the only piece I dont classify as a glorified gold drop that takes up an inventory slot. Universal uniques also are not anything I see as interesting.
Poor stat affixes stuck on questionable gear makes you see the difference between the uniques players can get in the game and the “UBER UNIQUES” they decided to make a myth.

Show you right. Statement stands, just without the rarity variable.
