The problem of AoZ

The main issue with this content is:
Why to do this at all? What I will get? No new uniqs, no 925ilvl items, just an exp for a glyph that disappears next season? There is no reward for it. And this is not an endgame activity. Its for fanboiz who is like squirrel in the wheel…

This is the first iteration of Greater Rifts in D4. Consider it a small PTR within a season. There is no point other than pushing your own limits.

Exactly. You can get all the reward you want at level 60+ in Duriel rotations. Some of the easiest content in the game.

Why engage in the most difficult when the rewards do not equal or exceed the risk/cost?

This game is all kinds of backward.

I am not sure why this is difficult for other folks to understand.

A lot of times this is the only reason why people do things even outside gaming.

let me tell you why its a BIG problem. Because the time spent for this sh… could be used for real end-game activity creation for example…
Or for itemization change
Or for learning simple MATH
or or or or…
Hope you got me

There it is folks. The “me me me” generation.

What is in it for me if i do it?
What do i get for my time spent?

Why does there need to be a reward for optional content? It isn’t about getting something in return. It is to push you and make you a better player. Have faster reflexes. Understand your build on a deeper level. It is bragging rights.

What do you get for building a puzzle? What do you get for having kids?

It is about the joy of completing a task and nothing more. You want rewards for time and money spent? Go to the casino.

Its ok AOZ is being nerfed into the ground. It will be doable with sup par gear/builds.

understand your build with training dummy without any damage/buff/debuff report ahahahahahahha, yeah I see what generation you are talking about xD

Listen, if you’re not smart enough to make adjustments from a T100 dungeon before AoZ, that is a you problem.

Maybe the phrase “get good” applies to you.

Or maybe you just need to pick up checkers instead of D4?

Either way, still a “you you you” problem.

100% agree with OP. The only reward from AoZ is a glyph…that I only need in AoZ.

Why not have some decent loot there too when this is the hardest content in the game?

I just dont understand the theory behind this.

The million dollar question is. For what do you need the loot ? World Bosses are deleted within 2 seconds. Legions aren’t even worth mentioning. Lvl 100 nmds are meh and easier than AoZ.

It would only serve as another treadmill to make you stronger for an easier time climbing tiers. That would literally be the exact copy of d3’s grifts.

The current intention behind AoZ isn’t it giving another carrot on the stick to chase. It’s there to test your build and to perfect it until you hit a wall. While still giving you a tad power upgrade with the glyph. Thats your carrot.

Pretty simple concept. Thats the point of it.

Because it’s not a motivation lever for the overwhelming majority of people in the world.

Reward is the most common motivational level for pretty much every person alive. Do you go to work and just find joy in challenging yourself? No, you wouldn’t go if there wasn’t a cash reward at the end of the week.

The “to challenge yourself” motivation works better when one keeps it to themselves instead of broadcasting it on forums and makeshift leaderboards.

I get both sides. I am just logging back into D4 now after some burnout from Dura runs. AoZ didn’t really appeal to me from the get go. I would make the argument that skill really isn’t the pinnacle element of success in the content but rather the uber uniques you managed to get in addition to levelling the new glyph. Also, bragging rights are good and all if you have some sort of cosmetic, leader board etc.

I have always thought the fundamental problem with this game and D3 is seasons. Seasons are just a filler. Instead of adding new content you are required to restart the levelling process and after a few seasons I’m generally done with it. Its just lazy design. Also games should be about entertaining and not everyone thinks the same. But everyone is entitled to have a say. Perhaps the “you you you” mentality could be applied to you also? Just my 2 cents.

Actually yes. There’s a limit on how much salary can bring satisfaction to an employee. There’s already research done on that. Once a person reaches a reasonable salary, factors beyond salary becomes important like doing something meaningful and challenging.

This is quite a common feedback I get from software developers. My profession. Devs leave work to find more challenging things to do, even though multiple times they are already being rewarded with good money. Of course no one would reject any monetary increase but there’s a point where money isn’t the most important factor.

is ilvl 900+ loot not good enough for you?

No. 4 items 900+ IS Not good enough…

Would have been better to give Out Something more useful than 4 items with bad rolls 99% of the time…4souls,4 veiled Crystals have more use…but in the end IT doesnt Matter ITS Open betA ptr…btw has anyone allready found the newest exploit These Clowns May accidently have patched in?

I agree with this, sort of.

The currently available research seems to indicate that there is a minimum rate at which someone desires to be paid in order to go to work. So yes, some people don’t prioritize money as a reward but that seems to be a result of already being over their prefered threshold. The real test always comes when you ask a worker to do something for free. The answer in studies results in two most common options, either “no” or “I do it because I may lose my job otherwise”.

That being where the research lands, it’s almost irrelevant to the discussion. The baseline of playing a game isn’t being forced in any fashion. At the very worst it comes to obligation to to price of the game. Which honestly, I doubt is the biggest factor in any significant number of players minds.

Also, a few years back the magic number for happiness was $77,000/yr in the USA but in recent studies that number is around $90,000/yr. Might be due to recent inflation.

They obviously need to buy alot of blue pills.
