The lack of build optimization and skill points

Hi my fellow diablo 4 community, I’m here discussing my frustration about skill points and poor build optimizations. My suggestion is to improve the skill points from 58 to 65 that makes picking skills and add-ons less sacrificial and stops the ppl from not leveling up there core skills cause that’s what people are doing due to the low amounts of skill points I’m not sure why there’s only 58 skills points hopefully this change gets implemented

+2 Skill Points
+4 Paragon Points

Dreams…

Adding or moving some common use passives to the Basic skill node would make things less annoying for builds that don’t use a Basic skill.

58 skillpoints are plenty enough in the current system. I rather have more options then more skillpoints, which would not amount to much. Just that every class could skill everything they want, which is kinda boring if u have to make no decisions.

No, they aren"t.
Very often I lack a few points to spend on passive skills for my build. This is especially visible in the case of a sorcerer, who often “loses” 6 points on Enchanting alone.

strange take, i play sorc main, theorycrafted countless builds, amd i never had any problem adjusting. It just felt shallow cause of the lack of choices.

You are probably just not very good at this and feel u have to take every upgrade for some skills.

Yes, especially in hybrid builds where you combine two elements (for example: Ice + Lightning).

You’re definitely right…

Just let us convert paragon points into skill points at a rate of 8 paragon points to one skill point.

When you factor in the paragon boards and glyphs its more than enough.

On the contrary, I think they should just increase the level cap per skill to say 8 instead of 5

Increasing the lvl cap of skills implies a decision on the player IMO, do I want that extra 30%-ish power or I still want my passives and play safer

Right now (IMO) we can comfortably get all the levels on both - the skill we use primarily for damage as well as all the passives we want

Well, with tempering you are able to add ranks to passives which in turn would free up a few more points in the skill tree that you could re-locate somewhere else.
It’s all about making hard choices! So, I rather like the current system, it makes you think a bit about what to do and what to keep and what to sacrifice.

I don’t think any amount is actually “adequate.” You will always want to have more and more points, until you get absolutely everything that can be minimally useful to you.

The idea that you don’t have enough is forcing you to choose, which I don’t dislike because it makes me think about where to put points and where not to put points. It’s like a puzzle.

Currently, and with my build, it allows me to max out my 3 damage abilities and get all the key passives I want.

Even though I usually use legendaries and paragons to just max out 2 and get a couple extra passives.

With the inclusion of tempering, I will even be able to delegate more points to other places.

But this is only in case of my build, I don’t know what the others are like.

The point, and to be clear, asking for more skill points is like asking to equip more items. You will never have enough.

Just like Lays potato chips!

I smell a conspiracy here…

Everyone gets a new skill in the expansion so.

Path of Exile has 120-ish Skill Points.

  • Atlas Points :sunglasses: .

More skillpoints easily translates to more options, just a note.

Still cant get a harly crest

exactly the opposite is true, having skillpoints for all the options leads to homogenisation. you dont have to choose anymore u have everything u want, there is no variation anymore at this point, everyone is the same.

No, the options are at least the same. What you get is less player-choice and less build variety.

Imagine if you had enough points to max the tree… it would be like having no options or choice.

In that case, it is better not to have the tree and do it like Diablo Immortal or Diablo 3.
(Personally, I don’t dislike this idea, because I think the items are “the” important thing and not the tree, but that’s another topic)

I am firmly in the “the skill tree needs to have many more options for skills, customization and upgrading of those skills” camp, with more skill points to compensate. I would like it if character growth along the skill tree continued to level 100, with the paragon board supplementing it to help focus on various things.

Im not blindly selecting what im told. If i had a shako, which currently i do not, more build options would be available to me.

On a large scale, if selection only includes meta, sure. Homogeneous builds. That means theyve all made the same choices. They still have those choices, though.

What you’re describing sounds more like lack of balance. If a few skills stand so far above the rest that you feel compelled to select them, then yeah that leads to lack of choice, homogeneous class/builds, ect.
