The Diablo 4 Community Is Overreacting to the 3.1 PTR

After reading through the full PTR notes, I honestly think a lot of people are doom posting way too hard.

Are there some massive nerfs? Absolutely. Heir of Perdition going from 80% damage to 15% is huge, Godslayer Crown got hit hard, Banished Lord’s Talisman got nerfed, and a bunch of the most dominant builds and interactions got toned down. But let’s be real here: some of this stuff needed to happen.

Heir of Perdition should not be the best in slot item for practically every build in the game. When one Mythic becomes the automatic answer regardless of class, build, or playstyle, that’s not healthy itemization. The same goes for some of the builds that were stacking ridiculous damage multipliers and completely overshadowing everything else. If Blizzard wants actual build variety, they have to bring the outliers back down.

And honestly, people are ignoring a lot of the good stuff in these notes. Solo Self Found is finally being added, which is something people have been asking for since launch. Realmwalkers are returning with actual new mechanics around Pandemonium Ruptures and the Deathtoll Chamber. The leaderboard system is getting proper rewards instead of feeling pointless. There are new seasonal activities, a new boss, new loot chase systems, and more reasons to experiment with different builds instead of just copying whatever the strongest meta build is.

The one thing I really don’t like is the new Mythic Unique direction. Turning Mythics into an upgrade system that can apply to almost any Unique is an interesting idea, but I don’t like the move toward random affixes on Mythics and Uniques. To me, those items should have fixed affixes. Part of the excitement of seeing a Shako, Grandfather, Tyrael’s Might, or any other iconic item drop is knowing exactly what that item is. Adding more RNG layers to those items makes them feel less unique and more like another crafting project.

That said, I still think the overall goal of the changes makes sense. Blizzard is clearly trying to move away from a game where every build uses the same Mythics, the same broken interactions, and the same handful of overpowered setups every season. Whether they get the numbers right is another discussion, but the direction itself isn’t nearly as bad as people are making it out to be.

It’s a PTR. The entire point is to test things, collect feedback, and make adjustments before launch. Some criticism is fair, but reading the forums right now you’d think Blizzard just deleted the game. The community hasn’t even played the PTR yet and they’re already acting like Season 14 is dead on arrival.

Every time there are nerfs all the doomers and gloomers start raising hell in the forums before they even get a chance to try the changes out. Not to mention, its just the PTR notes so nothing is permanent at this point.

That is because, for some reason, this forum attracts many of the people that are on the left side of the bell curve. I can’t believe how many cringe posts I read by people that should be behaving like adults yet act like crying children. The behavior around here is mindboggling.

Who cares? If it bothers you, don’t engage in it. A game forum with maybe 20 really active users and a bunch of tourists isn’t “the community.”

I agree with this. I’ve said it before, we’re just a bunch of people at the water cooler, talking about something we have in common with varying opinions about it. Some want that common thing to burn, others want it to improve, and then we have people who just want to be part of the conversation and insult all parties involved.

:goat: and in before Robert

As long as I get to play a build I haven’t yet the next season is always worth trying. 14 in and I haven’t doubled up yet.

PTR ? . . . . . . . .

I enjoy many of your posts some are a little wacky but overall not that bad.

Some people try and help the community others not so much. No names you already know who they are.

I don’t need forum journalists to form opinions for me.

What??? When my Streamer says,“get mad” I GET MAD!!! :hamster:

Part of the problem is understanding. If you rely on someone else to tell you what will happen, you fail to see they are bringing the builds closer together in damage.

It’s relative. If all the builds can’t get past T10, that is better than 2 broken ones that can speed run pit150 while the rest struggle. Will this result in better balance?? Knowing Blizzord I will say it will take a few tries to find every thing truly broken. But it is a start in the right direction.

Much better than just ignoring it and hoping POE2 doesn’t make a taming build that will eat your lunch.

What if we are all 3 of these

Not all is hard to predict..

Yes, people are overreacting to nerfs (the usual) but don’t think they’re overreacting to the changes of uniques

Increasing state of chaos in what is already quite a chaotic state of unique drops won’t make things better, doesn’t take a rocket science calculation to kinda foresee the ballpark of where things end doing this

Ofcourse there may be a silver-lining that we can’t yet see (last season had a really bad PTR but season kinda ended up decent-ish, so perhaps something like that may happen), but again doesn’t mean that the concern/criticism isn’t valid

I think you mean improving the chaos. Since we can now actually reroll the affixes on uniques. I would say that already makes it better than the current system we have in S13.

The changes to Iconic Mythics is the more chaotic thing. Which I agree with, it’s more chaotic for Iconic Mythics going into S14, especially with the nerfs and changes to them.

Personally speaking I don’t think either system needed to have random affixes upon them dropping. Uniques were always meant to be those static items. Sure you may have not liked all the affixes that came with them, but the trade off was for the aspect power you couldn’t get anywhere else.

They were BiS by default, not because of their affixes but their unique power. It kind of evened itself out. Now arguably they will be better than iconic mythics going into S14. Feels like a very roundabout way or making a legendary with extra steps in a slot you can’t change.

Honestly, I am more upset about the various exploits in the game.

How to:

  • Infinite farm butcher
  • Infinite farm goblins
  • Infinite farm Goblin boss, corrupted roots
  • Infinite farm insert xxxx

It really gets old hearing about each and every exploit.

Hmm. Perhaps seeking the assistance of a licensed, medical professional would be in order? To figure out what personality disorders you got going on and work up a treatment plan.
