The butcher is anti-fun

Lol goodbye… :raised_hand_with_fingers_splayed: the butcher doesn’t really inpact my gameplay. Yeah, he butchers me every time he’s spawned. But I’ve gone a solid 4 hours without seeing him. He doesn’t impact my gameplay enough to get all hot and bothered over it.

Noooowwww… if my character was a hardcore character… it’d be a completely different story…

You wrote in an earlier comment that you have gear with “damage bonuses, vulnerable damage bonuses, frozen enemy damage bonus and so on”.
What about defensive stats? You didn’t complain about your damage, you complained about your tankiness.

Do you have 2-3 aspects that increase your damage reduction or armor?
Do you use defensive skills like Ice Armor and Flame Shield?
Do you have health, damage reduction and % armor on your gear? Especially on chest and pants you should get 4/4 defensive stats because the offensive affixes aren’t great for these gear slots anyways.

You can consider this a bit of a checklist. If you can check off all of the above points and still quickly get killed by the butcher, then yes, something’s wrong with the game. If not that’s the reason why butcher owns you.

Not sure how to link to the build. I’m doing the ice shard sorc with fire bolt in the enchant slot. Is there a way to export from the game into a build site?

It’s not fun on low level.

But he’s nice at high level when you got at least some chance.

I love seeing a 90+ butcher in the Nighmare dungeons, i am 83.

He’s pretty easy at my stage of gear

i bet you didnt. you maybe defeated him but not “Wiped the floor with him”.
he has too much hp for that. its only possbile if you play a broken build.
so what do you play?

My issue is basically one of “you must build your character in exactly the 100% perfect cookie-cutter manner or you get insta-owned.” That’s not great design.
Yes, I’m using ice armor. Don’t have much +health gear since I haven’t gotten any of that to drop yet. Will keep an eye out for defensive chest and pants, though I’ve got a unique set of legs atm. Iceheart brais

i play on hardcore and he’s free legendaries every time he appears, he doesnt chain cc or explode. your defenses and armor must be terrible if you cant stand there and whack-a-mole him while drinking a few potions. he’s not hard at least on rogue, necro or barb with the disobedience aspect slotted.

I could see that sucking for a hardcore player, but last time I tried to fight him he despawned after I died and I lost all of 30 seconds of dungeon running.

If I was hardcore I’d just go the opposite direction the instant I saw him. As a 20-something necro he melted my minions and literally pinned me in a corner to where I was unable to move and obviously then died pretty fast. It was cheese but, like I said, it didn’t really cost me anything.

The entire encounter only cost me like a minute tops. I guess I just don’t see what the big deal is.

He always despawns after killing you. For HC, if you arent geared, you have to run. Part of HC is avoiding risk and finding ways to escape dangerous situations.

It would suck to get killed by him in HC for sure. But you can get away.

And for SC he despawns on killing you. He’s just an added attraction. Shouldn’t be bothering you to the point you want to quit (not you, that’s aimed towards OP)

Whats the stats on your chest and legs… thats the biggest determination if you get wrecked or you’re a tank.

I like how the Butcher appears from time to time.
Yeah you need a boss killer build to fight him.
But if you know you can’t win against him, just run away and you will loose agro and he disappears.

Hes basically the only threat in the game outside of early capstone boss and high tier NM dungeons or Uber Lilith. I died to him a few times on lowbie chars in teens and 20s. Haven’t lost to him once 30s and up once you have some gear/talents. Even if you do die there is no punishment in the game outside of hardcore. You just lose 10 seconds walking back. Hes one of the better additions to the game imo. Need more threats outside of endgame.

Git gud. Evade his slam attack and just stutter step in a circle around him.

He drops a guaranteed legendary, at least. Pretty free loot imo.

I actually remember the butcher from the first diablo, behind that door. He was way stronger than anything else in that dungeon, wish I could remember whether I successfully killed him or not. If I did kill him, it still involved a lot of running. It’s been a really long time since I played it so I can’t quite remember the outcome.

He could frame lock you and just melt you. Alot of the time you ran/cheesed him. Going toe to toe was scary early on but his weapon was worth it big time.

It made me lol for sure when the game dressed me up like a female to kill me off like a :poodle: by the butcher.

Early game, wrong skills, wrong aspects is all I can say to you. All Blizz games are about reading, applying, testing…Once you get your char tuned for both for offfense and defence, then you will that you cam kill him easily. Just try to learn your cclass and you will be fine.

Every stat on legs and chest should be some form of dmg reduction or life ideally… theyre all huge bonuses… and +added dmg is almost useless with how stats work. Thendmg modifiers that actually matter are crit dmg and vuln dmg, and neither are on chest or legs

Well it’s not really cookie-cutter. If you are a literal glass-cannon, you cannot expect to easily survive one of the harder encounters in normal dungeons.

I just pointed out the 4/4 defensive affixes on chest and pants because these are the most optimal slots to put them on if you don’t want to sacrifice better offensive affixes on other slots. You CAN get damage reduction on amulets or life and % armor on the helmet or life on rings for example.

Gotta invest into some defenses too, that’s no different than in any other MMO or ARPG.
