I wonder why oh why tempering needs to be so bad. All rolls including scroll for rerolls, the same roll every time. Would it be that hard to add a roll counter that lowers % for each result so other selections gets bumped up on the roll list. Hours and hours of grinding for gear and then get it destroyed by tempering. There should be a different option here. If there is three selections to roll from and you get the same result each time… that just sucks.
This is simple:
Blizzard wants you play game as long as possible and most important: wants you stay with D4. Ask any business manager why.
True, in psychology when you mix it up in the rewards department, that increases the motivation, but there is a limit, which it appears that Blizz has exceeded. People give up after that threshold and move onto other endeavors.
IMO, tempering is lousy on a good day… I mean really, I want to sell to bliz game designers… A cool million for this fancy entertainment center, gaming setup all complete and ready… Pay me now… Oh here you go, have a stump… “Better luck next time”
That wouldn’t be a terrible idea. Kinda like an inverse pitty mechanic.
I am onboard with that but I am pretty sure that alot of players just give up. Grinding gear for hours and hours just to get it bricked in a few rolls. There is improvements to be made here. I am one of those that just simply do not play d4 more than just a quick run each season. End game gear grind just aint worth it. And for me that is a big chunk becasue of their tempering idea.
So far I haven’t totally whiffed more than one scroll worth. It is worth mentioning though that I have seen a bare minimum roll, and kept it because at least it was the affix I wanted, at least three times. I have rolled the maximum exactly zero times. If it was truly random you would think the lowest and highest rolls would occur with equal frequency.
I have several more aspects at the lowest possible than max as well. Some rng. But aspects are clearly weighted so that really high rolls only occur on ancestral gear. In my experience.
I wonder why we needed tempering and masterworking at all. Never needed it in previous versions of the game. Enchanting and gems/runes were enough. I say get rid of them and balance the game around that.
Yeah masterworking makes me sad. I reset after getting the worst level four possible. I cannot fathom trying to make it happen three freakin times. I am not a degenerate gambler so I might just never maximize my gear.
I do not like watching hours of grind evaporate on a slot machine pull. Full stop. I can just stay one torment level lower I guess.
Can’t lie I like more systems they just made them way to complicated, make temper and masterworking take tons of mats but no rng, you just pick the stat you want. Also kind of silly to think people would go back to the same blacksmith after showing how incompetent they are at it just is game breaking for immersion also.
A better question is why anyone{at those with decent PC} would bother playing when the Fenris issues are liable to crash and destroy your PC
