Honestly just remove the freaking limit… You’re going out and getting your own materials and spending your own gold. That or allow the player to pick what they want and just roll for the numbers on the affix you want. Its so rage inducing. It actually makes me want to just close the game after failing to get an affix 10 times in a row.
100% agreed with you, I decided today to stop playing as the feeling of finally getting the item you were looking for to go deeper in Pit levels (pit 125 at the moment), and then destroying it with useless tempered affix after one reset limit, is just way too frustrating.
And that does not make any sense from a commercial point of view: I was thinking about purchasing a cool skin for my necro in the shop, but after having destroyed one great 2GA 2hands mace and the amulet with +tides of blood & coalesent blood (not even GA as its almost impossible to find) in one week, I’m just done. Horrible.
On top, while I had the impression I was playing quite often, wasting these precious items with a tempering math that does not work (two levels of randomness: 1 affix out of 4 and 3 levels of value (low middle high) = MINIMUM 1/12 to really get what you want for 1 affix. so let’s be super optimisitc stat’ wise and put a 1/24 to really get what you want with two affixes. With an amulet, you have max 10 chances: you need on average 3 exact same items to really get the combination you are looking for, at max values. Good luck to get 3 GA 2 hands maces with intel and max life.
They really destroyed the fun. They can just keep this horrible tempering in Hardcore mode, not softcore.
Who is monitoring players complains ? Friends explained me this issues and I did not understand before 110h in the game: the Devs destroyed endgame fun.
I’m now out until its fixed. Bye all, see you another time maybe.
Tempering is fine as is!
Stop trying to make the game too easy
Bricked two different items back to back (ring and wep) and it makes me feel pretty damn terrible. It was my first and only 2 handed mace ancient I have gotten so far - 12 tempering rolls and didn’t get the affix I was looking for one single time.
Come on y’all, there’s gotta be a better way.
Again, anyone who says “tempering is good as it is now” is obviously either a no life (aka a tiny fraction of players representing peanuts revenues for Blizzard) or someone who is really not playing endgame
Bricking an item is by far the worst feeling, creating DISengagement.
Blizzard: do your job and fix it.
Tempering is trash. Period. The system is dumb as best.
The worst part about both tempering and masterworking is that you can end up with something actually worse than you had at one point. Here’s several hours of your life utterly wasted. Gee thanks, Blizzard.
I work full time, own a house and play D4 endgame content. Don’t assume you know people and get a life
There is always 1 ………
What the actual ??? How does your comment even remotely have anything to do with the topic at hand?
It’s kinda like saying “I own a Ferrari”, nobody gives a $&!@s about that as it’s not related to what was said in the post. Anybody can say what you did.
The topic is as stated, Tempering is and always has been garbage and a waste of time and resources to min max gameplay when you have a high probability of destroying a good piece of gear
It’s the worst feeling to go through 12 rolls! and not get the affix you need. And being build specific (Firewall does nothing for me if I’m going with Meteor), this system is either broken or “working as intended”. If it’s broken, please, for the love of dog, fix it already! And if the latter is true, that’s pretty F’d up to inflict this amount of pain and suffering on your player base.
It is not just a waste of a player’s time and resources, tempering also has a far greater impact on player’s mental attitude. We all understand that a good portion of D4 is the random number generator. The problem is that it has been let loose in Sanctuary and running wild with no way to catch it.
What the eff am I talking about? Simple. Far too much effort is put into the game by players looking for, grinding out events to earn ancient ancestral items, with 1, 2, 3 etc GA’s on them. It is extremely difficult to find an item with all the stats you want, for example, a glove with attack speed, critical strike chance and say core skill bonus. That is the target, hopefully some will have a GA. You can farm 10,000 gloves and maybe 5 have all of those affixes. but only 2 or 3 have a GA. It took you 3 months plus looting bags from the March of the Goblins event to accumulate and sift through all that loot to get those gloves.
Now, you try your luck at some tempering. Brick, Brick, BRICK! Vendor them all because none would give you the two tempers you were after. It happens. it is depressing and frustrating, but the toll on you is you are thinking damn the eff-ing game, eff those effing devs. You’re not thinking very good thoughts and everyone around you knows it. You keep this attitude stewing for a few days, during which you avoid playing D4 as you are pissed at how the RNG keeps kicking your butt.
That mindset it still there as you return to play a week or so later, trying again. More time passes, weeks go by, months, and here you hope it will succeed where it failed before. Nope, rinse and repeat - bricks again and again.
This is now in your thoughts a bad game, deplorable, dismal, depressing is just too good a word to waste on how things turn out for you and so you either delete your short cut and return to playing Warcraft or some other game and forget D4 is on your computer.
A year goes by, you think somewhere, sometime ago, things maybe were fixed, changed. Long story short, no, same crap, different day. (year)
The franchise is losing customers but it gains new ones who go through the same experience, and a year later, leave, likely forever, and it does not matter because the throughput is there, and the numbers show an average of active players is about the same all the time so nothing gets really done as it looks like all is well when it is really not all that well.
My point here is that the tempering system as it stands brings about a very negative attitude to the majority of players and it needs to change to encourage rather than punish and drive away those who participate playing this game. If I asked a paint shop to paint my car black and just because they have 250 colours to choose from, a week later I come back to pick up my car and it is navy blue instead! Well, they either don’t get paid until they fix my car to what I asked for in the first place, or I sue them and get them to do the job properly. Reputation wise, they get downgraded and lose business, eventually closing shop because they tend to not do what was asked of them almost every time. Random attitude is bad for business. Or they fire the painter and hire a new one.
Same here. Why the heck are we getting a random chance at our choice when we had to look for the tempers and add them to our catalog in the first place with the Blacksmith? That just does not make sense. If a temper has a percentage added to it, like 25% to 50% damage, that is the only thing that should be random. Not 1 out of 3 or 4 possible options, then a 25% to 50% variable as well.
Masterworking. Yes, that too has issues. Too much gold to get things where you want them I spent over 2 billion just to get the 3 - 25% bonus drops - on one affix, over an hour and just over 55k worth of Obducite. That is crazy!
I play Eternal, not seasons. I like one class and I play the Sorceress only as a frozen orb or ice shards build. I hate fire and lightning and I recall Blizzard’s sale’s pitches back prior to D4 being released, the “Play the way you want to play”. I am and I am not doing bad, but when I was doing great, everything was changed with patches and nerfs and or buffs. Gear has already been replaced with the VoH expansion, gear has also undergone a slew of changes to nerf, for the most part: powers. Tempers used to be available to be applied on your main hand, off-hand and glove for the chance to hit twice, now the glove option is gone. Why?
Why? Why? Why? are there so many unnecessary changes and difficult crafting methods? Remember this saying - Murphy’s Law: If it works, don’t fix it.
It did at one point, now it no longer does work properly.
Still things get fixed and refixed and fixed again, but the impact is that the way it used to work, well, it no longer does work that way anymore and it likely never will work great again. Broken and costly and depressing. Taking the fun out of what used to be fun and making it a negative experience is just pushing the veterans away.
You will always have those who love change, thrive on it and don’t care how it turns out, they also likely play dozens of games so when this one fails to keep their attention, that sugar rush just pushes them over to another for a while, rinse and repeat.
For those who have been playing since December 31, 1996, that first CD game of Diablo was very exciting, captivating and fun. What happened? D2, D3 now D4, lots has changed, socialization was introduced and groups made available. Many die-hards still solo the Diablo frontiers as they enjoy it that way. I like buying cosmetics in the shop when the gear looks appealing to me on my toon. I just can’t convince myself to stick around in a game where I feel depressed because it fails to bring me enjoyment. I mean, after-all, that is why we play games, to have fun?
